Running it once or twice

Hello all!

Is there any real merit in running it twice in cash games?
I heard it lowers variance but I think that might be individual.
Is there any math behind this or what are your thoughts on this?
I saw most players at 25NL NLHE tend to run it twice.

Thanks!

it does lower your standart deviation but has no effect on your winrate.
if you appreciate variance turn it off. if you like to avoid variance turn it on.

that everything you need to know when deciding to run it once or twice.

It would get rid of many major bad beats (with the cost of winning as a favourite less often but when it is ran 3+ times) but as so few use it or it isn't a function at most sites, I stopped using it, partly also as there might be some statistical minuses for using it when tracking results, but I don't remember anymore. It feels a bit more clean to run it just once when the variance doesn't matter as much.

What I don't understand with running it twice is why the cards from the first runout are not placed back in the deck.

Say we have 10 outs (FD) and two hit on the first runout. Now on the second one we have only 8, which produces an average of 2 x 9 instead of 2 x 10.

What am I missing?

You're missing the fact that if you hit none of those flush cards on the first runout (more likely), then you actually have a better chance at getting there on the second runout (2 cards that aren't flushcards aren't in the deck anymore). So it evens out that way.
