I decide to call OOP and see a flop with a hand that does well multi way. Ideally, I would like for the BB to come along.

At this point, I am unsure how to range villain as I have no reads. I decide the best play is to donk lead and get him to call with weak draws or single pair hands. Although, in retrospect, I do believe most players would cbet this board so x/c or x/r are options as well.

Once the ace comes on the turn, I am not sure how to progress with the hand any further. His call does not tell me much on the flop and I am not really that happy with the ace. I decide to lead for a small bet as I do not want him to open myself up to player betting as a bluff and having to fold. At this point in the hand, I no longer know how to read the situation. Ideas and tips on how to think through the hand are welcome.

Pretty bad turn and river card, I decide to give up. When he bets on the river I need to be good here 20% of the time. I really want to fold because the villain does not have many bluffs in his range and his sizing suggests he would like me to call and extract value. I think and decide to call and am beat.
Final Pot
CO
wins and shows two pair, Aces and Jacks.
CO wins $4.60
Rake is $0.22

In retrospect, a better way to play this hand would have been to x/r or x/c the flop as I would be able to put my opponent on a better range of hands. However, what I need is a better way to think through these kinds of spots and to be better at ranging opponents. To my defense, he is an unknown. Look forward to your feedback guys. Thanks

Pre: Having a flatting range in the SB is only better than 3betting linear when you know the BB isn't skilled enough to exploit you for it, imo. At nl10 it's probably fine over 95% of the time, though.
Flop: Donking accomplishes nothing. You lose value against everything that villain would have bluffed with and don't make any better hands fold.
Turn: You're changing your hand into a bluff, why?
River: What could he possibly have that he calls flop with, calls turn, then bets river, that you beat? Well except for 75s maybe, which are only 4 combo's.
Hey,
What site are you playing on? And is it a regular table or zoom?
I duno, I think if playing a mix strat from SB we should have a flop donking range.
CO's open will be pretty wide, and he will have allot more air and A high in range then us.
When we donk here we are getting value from TT-77, MP, WP, 87s, some AK and some overcards with BDFD/BDStD. And when that some AK and other Ax, Kx folds there 14% equity chunk, it isn't that bad of a result.
OTT I don't think our hand is strong enough to value bet, and to strong to turn into a bluff.
Villain's range improves with AA( that didn't raise), AJ picks up 2nd pair(6 combo's), A6s & A4s( another 5), and a ton of TP from the A high floats and BDFD's ( aprox 15+ combo's)Think we should C/C to induce a bet from GS/ FD's that picked up equity OTT.
River is a easy fold, it's not a blank KK(unlikely) improves, QTs(3 combos d/h/s), all his paint GS's KQ/KT improve to have SD value.
He will have a ton of value combo's here IMO we can weigh some from not raising on previous street, but I think at end of day it's just a fold.
I actually think this hand was misplayed on every single phase, at least my default line would be different on each decision. I mean, as Anomic said, its not probably a huge deal if you just call pre, it can be done profitably I think, but I´d still 3 bet it rather than call. Also the logic of "wanting the bb to come along" is very bad in my opinion - you don´t really want to play poker out of position against 2 players, do you?
On the flop check-call would be my standard play since the board is dry and not connected, so you can expect a cbet often. The turn and river are the streets which are the worst played parts of this hand. It makes absolutely no sense to bet out on the turn since an ace hits the board. Your hand is part of the range that wants to just check and try to show the hand down, it is not strong enough to go for another street of value. As played the river is a fold 100% of the time with your hand.
Thanks for the comments guys. I need to think through this a little more myself so that I do not make these mistakes in the future. What you guys are saying makes good sense. But even if I did x/c flop, do I fold on the turn that is a bad card like the ace? I just feel like I am giving up so much of the time with the best hand (that's what my mind thinks). I can see myself x/c flop x/c turn and fold if villain bets river (given the cards on turn and flop). Is that line better in this situation?
