Problem of defending QQ against 4bet (NL 50)
CO: $55.75 (Hero)
BN: $23.18
SB: $69.94
BB: $11.89
I will use this hand as an example to address some problems in my game (or maybe other players as well).
Villain is a reg, probably tight or reasonable (small hand sample).
With QQ I think it is standard practice to isolate UTG player, because our hand is vulnerable to potential overcards, or SB and BB coldcalls, while being strong enough when UTG calls our 3bet.
What I often see from UTG players, is that they just 4bet AA/KK here only, some of them even only AA, with only few potential bluffs.
So if I expect opponents range to be AA/KK heavy, does it even make sense to defend my QQ here for set value?
I made a small CREV preflop simulation.
If I call 4bet only for set/straight value, and assuming I will get all-in from opponent postflop in any case, defending against 4bet nets negative -0.5bb roughly, not including rake. If sometimes my opponent checks on the flop and lets me see an additional card, my EV of preflop call goes up to -0.25bb and higher, depending on freq of check, but still not enough.
If I also want to call my QQ down on such low boards, EV just drops to the ground.
So I need a lot of bluffs from my opponent to actually be able to showdown my QQ vs UTG, even on neutral boards. Not including scenarios where he might outdraw me with his bluffs, or where I fold on A/K high board
So question is, If my value range against UTG often consists of AA/KK/QQ/AKo/AKs/AQs, what hands from this range can I call vs min4bet? And how do I play postflop, if my oppponent preflop range is balanced/unbalanced?
