Postflop + solver app.... From prison.
Please forgive me as this is my first post. I got tired of posting in 2p2 with no responses. I messaging from a minimum security prison where I am serving a sentence because I made a bad decision to launder money for the wrong people using crypto. I used to play full time pre-black Friday mostly mid-stakes shot taking 5/10.
When I first got here I mostly hit the gym religiously until I noticed there was a poker table that ran every day loaded with rich white collar whales. I quickly learned how terrible convicts play and began beating the games consistently for weekly cash app payouts. I had very little live experience as I only played online before. BTW if anyone is curious about poker in prison I did an AMA in 2p2.
Anyway I started watching solver videos and found this site. Wanting to get back into the games online I figured I would study solvers more before jumping back online. Since I only have access to a phone at night I found an app called postflop+ it basically puts you in various NL spots differing in SPR and position and gives you different choices of actions and sizing. It assigns you a ELO score (also used to score chess game skill) based on the number of "perfect solver decisions you make.
Since I don't have access to a solver or PT software this is my only method of learning GTO. I have been getting absolutely crushed. I can't figure out why the solver does what it does. The only resource the app offers is a range split for each action. This has been somewhat helpful but I still feel stuck in the dark because I am still at a negative ELO score. I struggle mostly with the mixing of sizings. Why does it bet big on some boards and small on others? When I quit playing online 33% sizing with your entire range on the flop was super cutting edge. Now I see 10%-500% sizing in all these spots and I feel like a dinosaur.
I am also struggling with 3b and 4b pots at 200bb because the solver will cbet sometimes and x others on similar board textures. If I choose this action wrong it's considered a blunder minus 10 points and I see no rhyme or reason why it does what it does. Part of me feels like maybe the app doesn't reflect the solver well and has bugs because certain lines make no sense to me and I have nobody to ask why?
If anyone has used this app I would like to know if it's solutions are accurate and what if any additional resources I could use to understand why the solver does what it does.
Before you tell me, I am very aware that most players ESPECIALLY convicts don't play GTO. My success at the poker table here has allowed me to support myself in here without relying on family and allowed me to save a decent amount of money for when I get out. It's made me realize how much I missed the game and how far the game has come. I feel a solid understanding of solvers exponentially increases your learning curve and I am starving to learn more but I have nothing but a phone. Are there better apps I could use? From what I have seen here this place seems like the new 2p2 so I very eager to learn and post here to improve. Any resources links or videos you guys could recommend for someone without access to a solver would be very much appreciated. Sorry so long I figured it's probably best you guys know my situation as I plan on becoming a member of this community and so happy I found this.
