Playing with a maniac

This is 20 NL equivalent, 6-max cash.

I had a fun session on the weekend where I played with a blatant maniac. When I came at the table, he had about 180BB, and he was on my immediate left, with 4 other TAG regs at the table. I don't think I played correctly (frankly, got lucky in a couple of flips), but let me just describe what happened.

The maniac was playing like 80% of hands and raising or 3-betting like 40% of them. He was c-betting pot on the flop almost 100%. He would also randomly RFI 7-8xBB for no reason. He also raised or 3-bet on the BTN almost 100%. Some hands:

  1. I have Aces. I raise 3x on the BTN, maniac calls. Flop is random. He leads out for half pot. I raise, he folds.

  2. I raise to 3xBB with 55 on the BTN and the maniac calls in the SB. Flop is QJ9r. Check/check. Turn is a 5. He bets pot, I call. River is a 7. He overbets pot, I call. He had T8.

  3. Maniac raises to 6x preflop. I had ATs in the BB. Everyone folds around to me. I jam, he folds.

  4. I have A5o in SB. Maniac is in BB. I raise to 2.5x, Maniac min 3-bets. I 4-bet. He 5-bets. I fold.

  5. I have QQ in the HJ. I open 3x, maniac min 3-bets me from the CO, BTN (TAG reg) cold-calls, BB (TAG reg) jams for 33BB, I re-jam, everyone folds, I lose to AK.

  6. I have A9o in the CO. I raise to 3x, maniac min 3-bet from from the BTN, I 4-bet big, he calls. Flop is QQ5hh. I jam, he folds.

  7. Somebody limps. I have QJo in the CO. I iso-raise to 4x, maniac 3-bets me small again on the BTN. I shove 130BB, he thinks and call with 33. I win the flip. Maniac has now lost basically all his money. He reloads.

  8. Maniac raises UTG to 5x with 75BB. I'm in BB with AK. I shove, he calls with 77, loses the flip.

I probably played very spewy in the session but got rather lucky. But playing with a maniac sometimes confuses me.
