[NL5z] - Middle pair + FD facing flop 3bet

Blinds: $0.02/$0.05 (6 Players) BN: $19.63
SB: $7.07
BB: $5.00 (Hero)
UTG: $7.51
MP: $13.68
CO: $5.02
Preflop ($0.07) Hero is BB with 5 4
3 folds, BN raises to $0.12, SB folds, Hero calls $0.07
Flop ($0.26) 4 J 2
Hero checks, BN bets $0.15, Hero raises to $0.50, BN raises to $1.50, Hero raises to $4.88 and is all in, BN calls $3.38
I raised here because BN is going to have a wide range and I want to raise for protection. Against a 3bet I just ripped it in to maximise any fold equity if villain thinks I am doing this too light and is repotting me with hands like Axd. Let me know your thoughts.

I cant get behind the x/r nor the reasons you gave for it.
The 4bet is a bit less questionable once you go down that road.
His calling it off range will be JJ and 44/22 but at least you got him to fold his JTo...

Ok I just reread my comment and realized it sounded a bit condescending.
I'm sorry about that since it was not my intention, and I hope you take no offense.

BB vs BTN do we not want to employ a very aggressive X/R small strategy? Even against JJ here we still have 30% equity and against a hand like KJ we have over 50% so I really don't think it's as bad as you're making out. I just wanted to know if this was optimal, i'm fairly sure everything is +EV. It's okay haha

54dd has a bit too much equity to be X/r here imo. If you had a hand like A2hh or K2 I could get behind this more. Also his sizing isn't so small that you should have a huge X/r range, maybe if he makes it 1/3pot on the flop this becomes more acceptable. Ripping it in isn't a mistake most likely but your reasoning for doing it is questionable - you say that villain might think you're raising him light but this automatically assumes that villain is operating from that level of thinking which most likely is not the case

The result of getting it all-in isn't bad, but imo this hand plays better as a check-call. This way, you're ahead of BTN's c-betting range, and can play turns and rivers accordingly. You have lots of other draws which you can check-raise.

If the turn is good for your range (not a diamond), and he continues barreling, you can check-raise and put him in a difficult spot. And if you get called on the turn, you still have equity.

If he doesn't barrel on turn, you realize your full equity.

looks fine to me

you can mix xc and xr with this hand. Makes sense a xr since we block 44 that 3bets and we can easily barrel with our pot equity/fold equity.

xc sometimes is good since we can play turn easier with sdv and more outs to improve with our pair.

our equity is probably fine when we get it in. nh

Check/calling here in single raised pot. I could get behind making this move more with 53dd. You have a full 10% equity edge over 54dd vs. worst case scenario (sets only). Even 65dd is about 4% points higher and it has worse SD value than 54dd. I would be check/calling big FD's too (A and K, maybe Q high). We want to keep his weaker FD's in and we want to assert a little pot control when he is nutted on this board.

We can x/r AX-Qx fds that have low sdv, no overcards to board and can turn additional equity like straight outs...fairly certain a solver will aggressively x/r fds with low kickers that can turn straight draws and x/c fds with kickers that can hit pairs that can call multiple streets...ultimately we want to have strong flushes in both x/c and x/r range imo...also lower kickers unblock suited combos that can result in flush over flush...example A3dd unblocks a lot of suited broadway/connector fds that will get stacked
