NL5: Was I too passive?

Blinds: $0.02/$0.05 (6 Players) BN: $9.25
SB: $8.44
BB: $10.58 (Hero)
UTG: $9.47
MP: $5.00
CO: $5.99
Villain here is a reg with pretty tight stats of 17/10/5 so his UTG range should be on the tighter side
Preflop ($0.07) Hero is BB with J K
UTG raises to $0.15, 4 folds, Hero calls $0.10
Flop ($0.32) 5 J 2
Hero checks, UTG bets $0.15, Hero calls $0.15
At the time I elected to flat as I believed we are ahead of most of his range.
Turn ($0.62) 5 J 2 8
Hero checks, UTG bets $0.28, Hero calls $0.28
River ($1.18) 5 J 2 8 9
Hero checks, UTG bets $0.84, Hero folds
I'm pretty sure as played river is a fold. Please let me know if you think otherwise.

I'd like other opinions on taking a more aggressive line OTF and OTT. Should I be x/r here almost every time?

I did some basic calculations in Equilab giving villain a tight-ish range of hands that he would call a flop x/r with which gives us 50.2% against his entire range which includes his sets, TPTKs, FDs and overpairs.

Please let me know if I was a big nit :) and feel free to perform your own simulations (if this hand interests you enough/you are bored enough).

Check-calling flop and turn is fine and better than x/r here. As you analyzed yourself, by raising you isolate yourself against a very strong range of mostly overpairs, TPTK sets and NFDs and only fold out worse hands than yours.
Your line is well played and river seems like a good, disciplined fold against these super nitty stats of villain.
