NL5 JT facing aggression OOP

Blinds: $0.02/$0.05 (6 Players) BN: $4.89
SB: $5.12
BB: $6.16
UTG: $6.21
MP: $5.00 (Hero)
CO: $8.68
Preflop ($0.07) Hero is MP with J T
UTG folds, Hero raises to $0.12, CO folds, BN calls $0.12, 2 folds
Fold pre
Flop ($0.31) J 7 9
Hero checks, BN bets $0.35, Hero calls $0.35
I believe we should cbet here, with a large size
Turn ($1.01) J 7 9 9
Hero checks, BN bets $1.20, Hero calls $1.20
His overbetting feels bluffy so I call, although I'm ot sure if thats ok
River ($3.41) J 7 9 9 T
Hero checks, BN bets $3.22 and is all in, Hero calls $3.22
I called because I improved and I doubt he has the flush. still I think it's a bad call since he can have straights, sets, trips

You can improve but also Villain can improve to a better hand than yours, a T is a ghost out actually. OTR everything got there and he need to bluffs a lot for your call to be +EV

I think the flop check is fine. This is in my opinion a good hand to strengthen your checking range.

You could probably find an exploitative fold on the turn, depending on what reads you have on villain. But he bet twice now more than pot size. On NL5 with someone who doesn't even have his full stack, you can expect villain not to be balanced so I just don't think you're good enough.
