villain unknown, just joined the table and this is the 1st hand vs him
Preflop
($0.35)
Hero is BB with
J
A

Is calling this ok vs a complete unknown, especially given that he could 4bet a little lighter than usual expecting me to 3bet slightly more bluff heavy the first times?
Flop
($10.50)
9
J
6
What now? Even though this board looks better for my range at first glance, I don't think I have 99 whereas he can and he has more overpairs and strong FDs whereas I'm capped at AJ or the rare J9s, AA slowplay. Is this a check back? If it's bet, how do we deal with a c/r? I'd feel somewhat committed but expecting to be pretty crushed by his range then.

Dont think average nl25 plr 4bets 99 in this spot.
I think its a bet, dont think you are getting jammed on much when you hold the As.
We gain value vs his TT,Jx,A9s,A6s type hands.
Yes, the comment about the 99 was a brain fart. It's rather the other way around. Must have switched roles in my head.
Anyway. If this is such a clear bet, then how do you continue vs a c/s because that's how the hand played out. I think it's a pretty decent spot for him to go for this line with KK+ and felt like I got trapped here a lot. I even block the As for all of his FDs he could have.
I think we gain a lot of value by checking. As you mentioned, we have a pretty good range advantage here once he checks because all made hands should be betting since you hit this flop somewhat often. I'm going to check and induce him to make a mistake later in the hand.
Yeah but cant you let him make mistakes on flop ?
When you XB you rep SDV imo.
idk if that's so true in 4bp's. Some people are nitty in this spot and will x behind nothing. In lots of other spots, I agree.
def. check
Villain prob has range advantage, some hands with reverse implied odds and not a single hand that can pay off 3 streets anyway.
I would also XB - the board doesn't hit his range (it hits his C3 range, not 4B), so he should do a lot of checking on this texture, including OvP, and we have great IO on Ax.
You could consider betting like 1/3 psb just for protection, but I think I prefer to strengthen my XB range on this texture, especially with this combo.
not sure what betting achieves in this spot. you have back door fd and tptk, if he check jams this board with QQ+, which is very possible you'll be in a real bad spot.
Just a thought, against a complete unknown maybe a flat pre is okay?
