Preflop ($0.35) Hero is MP with 9 9

UTG raises to $0.75, Hero raises to $2.60, 4 folds, UTG calls $1.85

Flop ($5.55) 8 T J

UTG checks, Hero bets $2.75, UTG calls $2.75

I struggled in this spot. Is it correct to assume that our range wants to bet this flop and check a lot of turns? wich size shoul i be betting?
