NL2 zoom / AJs value betting river?

Blinds: $0.01/$0.02 (6 Players) BN: $4.01 (Hero)
SB: $4.50
BB: $2.74
UTG: $3.75
MP: $3.72
CO: $1.21
No read, first hand against villain
Preflop ($0.03) Hero is BN with A J
UTG calls $0.02, 2 folds, Hero raises to $0.08, SB folds, BB calls $0.06, UTG folds
Flop ($0.19) 7 A 8
BB checks, Hero bets $0.06, BB calls $0.06
Actually I'm not sure about the sizing? I cbet 1/3 pot to not cbet 1/3 only middle strengh hand
Turn ($0.31) 7 A 8 9
BB checks, Hero bets $0.19, BB calls $0.19
River ($0.69) 7 A 8 9 2
BB checks, Hero checks
I hesitated, check? or value betting? and fold on villain raise

Hello Aubady,

  • preflop standard play, nothing more to say.
  • BB is calling here rather wide. He might have here pocket pairs like JJ-22, suited broadways, suited aces, probably K9,Q9,J9s, AQ-ATo, KQ-KJo maybe even QJo, suited connectors and maybe some suited 1-gappers.
  • maybe that's a controversial phrase to say here, but I hate your cbet flop sizing. You are losing a ton of value. If he has something he will call your 1/3 sizing, 1/2 sizing and even 3/4 sizing here and if he doesn't want to call you, then he will fold. That's all. Play a simple, solid ABC poker. Forget about GTO on NL2 and things like a balance because people there are weak, you are levelling yourself and even if you are playing against a good reg who can spot it then what? - then its one of the 900 player-pool players.
  • 3/4 pot would be my sizing here. He has a lot of Axs in his range and you are dominating them. You are dominating his flush draws. You should be scared about only few combos here. AQ/88/77/87s/A8/A7 and you have a ton of equity against them.
  • ok so villain calls and the turn comes. Against a total unk you have two options and both have strengths and weakness. You can either check behind or bet. I like a cbet here more than check behind, but again, I don't like your sizing. I love Michael Jordan, so $0,23 would be my choice.
  • on the river I don't see any value in betting. BB might fold lower aces, he is certainly folding all of his busted draws and the only worse hand that MAY call you is AT.

I hope this answer helps you.

Think flop can be bet bigger, but I don't hate this size. AQhh and AKhh I size it up I think, AJs is kind of on the cusp. He really shouldn't have much better than A9 or so here anyway.

Turn seems ok. You pick up outs vs. 2 pair and still have a monster FD.

River. I hate checking and showing down when I can bet small (like $.20 or so) and either squeeze a tiny bit of value out of a sticky A6 call OR fold all the stuff we already beat and not showdown my hand (nice redline boost too).

I like turn sizing but would bet bigger on the flop. Now for the river. As villain did not raise you preflop, flop, turn and the board is wet there is a decent change that you beat him. So would make a thin value bet (1/2 pot or so) and fold to a re-raise.

because of small size otf you have room for river value-bet. When you bet bigger flop (2/3 for example), you can't valuebet river that effectively so it close EV to check (vs standard opponent)
