I'm checking both hands back because i don't want to get check/raised. It depends on villain, if he always x/f when he misses you could bet but if you don't know i think it's better to xb.
If betting $14 is a mistake it is likely only a small one. Your hand holds decent blockers and desires some protection - you also have a lot of cards that improve your hand strength on the turn.
I believe that betting flop becomes especially good if SB is on the fishy side or if BB is apt to c-bet 100% with its better Tx and overpairs.
