NL 100 Cbet Decision in 3bet Pot

Blinds: $0.50/$1.00 (6 Players) BN: $501.82
SB: $94.75
BB: $154.06
UTG: $123.87
MP: $105.37 (Hero)
CO: $116.38
Villain is a reg running 22/17 and 3 betting 8.5% and plays more of a 3bet game from BB than flatting even against EP raises
Preflop ($1.50) Hero is MP with 8 8
UTG folds, Hero raises to $3.00, 3 folds, BB raises to $9.50, Hero calls $6.50
Flop ($19.50) 6 5 3
BB checks, Hero bets $9.31, BB calls $9.31
Pre seems standard but flop I'm really on the fence. I definitely think he can check some better pairs with a heart as well as hands like AK/AQ with a heart as well as some give ups. Think he mainly check folds with over cards without a heart so I dont think we get value from anything except A high hands. Is there any merit to betting flop for protection or should having a heart make us more inclined to just check back and bet with pairs without a heart?
Turn ($38.12) 6 5 3 4
BB bets $24.02, Hero calls $24.02
Turn I was confused by his lead as did not expect he would have many 7x hands and we do pick up more outs against his over pairs. After looking through some reasonable ranges though I think we should just fold considering its dificult to evaluate whether any of our outs are clean and not many pure bluffs in villains range when he takes this line.
River ($86.16) 6 5 3 4 5
BB checks, Hero checks

Its ok, you can even bet smaller than that OTF, if you try to protect your hand, but no worse calls. Turn is really strange play by villain, dunno if we can call. River def. check back.

To me, it looks like a flush/straight making sure that sets/FD don't get a free card, which is why I prefer just mucking the turn.

As played, I agree with XB riv - nothing worse calls and nothing better folds vs a bet.

preflop standard, flop is really dependent on him having c/r range or not as its a disaster if he raises. You definitely have more flushes as i see a BB 3b range as fairly tight and more heavily weighted towards pocket pairs and maybe some AKs/AQs but most ppl just call with their KJs/KTs/ATs/A9s/Q9s/KQs/QTs type hands while you always raise and call them, so you actually can probably bet some for protection versus thinking opponent who knows he shouldn't be check/raising you much.
Turn cannot be good, as this card helps your range more. If it did help him, he should be checking and allowing you to value bet and add bluffs to a card that u shud be more aggro on him (tho both of u dont have much 7x). I might just fold here though exploitatively, bc he check/called flop and can't think of wtf he cud be bluffing with. He is not check/calling flop with any hands like AK no heart so he either has like TT-AA or AhKx AhQx or Ah7x, or 77, or even like AhKh (that fears u checking back on this scary card) and all have u beat or great equity. I'd fold.

any arguments for turning our hand into a bluff otr? It makes no sense for him to have a wide xc range/check the nuts to let us bluff here I think (7x is hoping for a xb, strong flushes prob jam cuz he likely expects us to xb weaker flushes...his nutted hands block all our potential bluffs).
I'd guess that most villains will defend <1-a% once they cap themselves like this.
I mean this just has to be a check hoping to a xb, no? Esp given the fact that we have boats in our range and villain doesnt.

I don't mind betting the flop, although vs good regs, I like XB more (wider X/continue ranges).

Turn is an easy fold - it's a good card for you, so he shouldn't be bluffing often, and our outs might not be good.

I think a small flop bet is fine to protect your hand. Almost any turn is bad for you and by betting you're denying at least 25% equity and might even get some value from a few hands. I would fold turn and definately check back river.

If we bet flop then I think calling turn is essential. Either way I think we have to defend at least one street here with 88.
