I think in theory I should be calling turn, but in practice shoving makes my life easier and population is probably underbluffing rivers and betting turns too often with hands they should be checking. What do you think?

I'd 3bet a bit bigger like 0.7/0.75. In the SB.
Even if the board isn't great I'll be bet/calling the flop as we still having a good range advantage and depend on what range BN would call preflop he'll have a lot of draws or pair+draws. If you decide to check imo you have to go for a check/raise to deny villain's equity.

BTN's range does considerably better than hero's given the pre flop action and I wouldnt expect to get 3 streets of value on this flop by betting so checking works well, especially with Kd. X/r is reasonable, x/c is also fine. On this turn, I'd just check/jam and hope to get called off by 1pair+draws
