Is implied odds still a thing or has that concept changed in recent times?
Implied odds considers the chance of winning an opponents entire stack as justification to draw beyond the immediate odds you are getting for that call. This was always somewhat difficult to quantify for me because even if you hit, you still don't know if your opponent will actually call you down with worse.
I haven't heard this term in a while, so I was wondering if it is an out of date concept or replaced by something else.

Hey Bud, this is not a concept that is out of date. I believe as we learn more about the theory side of poker this concept holds true. I think what has changed though is that as all players have gotten better. players are not putting in there money as light. even the bad players are more aware of when they should be getting all in. (Still lots of free money though :)
For example, back in 2005 you could set mine with your small pocket pairs and expect to stack your opponent’s who hold top pair.
A concept I am working on lately is relative hand strength. What flops are better or worse for my hand.
An example this is in SRP pot if I open AA from the button, BB calls and get a flop 72K rainbow my AA are worth a lot more then on a flop of say Ts9s8c.
Interested in what others think
Hope that helps cheers!
what kind of trading are you in?
Yea, I have been noticing that getting paid off for my value hands these days is often like pulling teeth, but I keep coming back to this game I fell in love with. Just trying to table select more aggressively. Thank you for that clarification.
My main gig is industrial supply sales.
It is still a concept that holds and with solvers, its application has been identified more accurately. Before solvers, people over evaluated their implied odds in spots like calling with small pairs in every position to set mine, but your opponent wont ever make strong enough of hands to justify your implied odds. In other spots where you open and get 3bet, your implied odds are huge vs stronger ranges that will stack off and make your drawing beyond immediate odds worth it.
10 years ago ppl thought that calling pocket 55 vs UTG was +ev and calling 55 vs blinds 3bet when your otb was -ev. Today we know its the opposite and calling smol pairs preflop is -ev but defending them vs 3bets late is +ev.
