HU Turn Balance Play
Hero (BB): $643.62 (107.3 bb)
SB: $796.33 (132.7 bb)
Preflop: Hero is BB with 8d 8h
SB raises to $15, Hero raises to $50, SB calls $35
Villain is a breakeven reg over a large volume. I haven't played enough HU with him to have accurate HU stats but his 6max stats are 31/22, , fold to 3bet 50%, folds each street ~50%. He seems to play fairly weak in missed single-raised pots (will check down lots of non-SD hands) but also understands when a range is capped and can attack it on occassion.
Flop: ($100) 4c 3c 4h (2 players)
Hero bets $60, SB calls $60
Turn: ($220) 6s (2 players)
Hero checks, SB bets $78, Hero calls $78
So this might be bad. The standard is to just cbet here but I had been whiffing a few 3bet pots previously and had to check/fold the turn in those. I feel like I want to strengthen my turn checking range in this spot so I can punish floats more often but perhaps 88 is too weak/needs too much protection to do so? I chose 88 since the river might get awkward since it's hard to get 3 streets of value from worse and I don't know villain's river tendencies but should I choose higher PPs instead since they need less protection?
River: ($376) 6c (2 players)
Hero checks, SB bets $276, Hero folds
He makes a larger sizing which he had already done a few times in our match so I think I can rule out thin value hands and put him on a pretty polarized range. I need about 30% equity to make a call BE. I'm unclear if he will always follow up his turn floats with a river bet but I know I can have hands like 55,65,67,and sometimes A6 by the river which are all better calls (assuming 55 is a better call than 88).
Results: $376 pot ($1 rake)
Final Board: 4c 3c 4h 6s 6c
Hero mucked 8d 8h and lost (-$188 net)
SB mucked and won $375 ($187 net)
