HU NLHE - Big winner without showdown, BIG LOSER with showdown.

Hi, I've played HUSNG turbos online on and off for a few years. Since I was under 18 when i started to play, I've taken the freeroll route, and grinded my way up to a bankroll of ~1500$ (very slow.. but steady)

I recently decided to try out HU cash games.
So January 1st I bought PT and decided to play some HU NL50. It's been a bit up and down (although mostly down).

I was rather shocked to see that I was a relatively big winner on pot w/o showdown and a really big loser in pots w/ showdown.

This can't be normal. Does anyone have an idea what common leaks would result in this type of graph?

Am I simply a turbo fish in the cash games and overplaying my mediocre hands?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

It's possible that you calldown too wide or bluff a lot on the river. Both of these things lead to a bad showdown line and good redline. I wouldn't focus too much on which line goes up and which goes down, green is the only one that matters. I suggest you to take a look at hands where you calldown or bluff on the river and see if you're overdoing these things. :P

Thanks, that's great advice Samu! I'll be sure to review those types of hands. :)

And, yeah, I know 5k hands is a bit small sample size.. But the tendency is clearly there and I just think it's better to grab any potential errors by the root, before it manifests as a habit.

There is no tendency in 5k hands...with the variance of such a tiny sample your graph could be completely different if you played that same 5k hands again in the same way. I won't even talk about if you played completely different 5k hands. The results can be as many as infinite. Also, if you played the majority of this hands against a particular opponent that will influence the graph too, because you could be just adjusting to his style. Seriously, you need to get way more data about your game before thinking your blue line looks bad...there is no tendency yet. But if you want to start studying about this right now, just search for "blue line" or "red line" here at RIO or at 2+2 and you will find great threads on this topic

Thanks Saulo, I tried to search for red line and blue line, and found a lot of interesting stuff! :D

And also, thanks for not giving up on me when I seemed a bit dismissive about your first advice. I really appreciate it!

Blue line is showdown winnings => This means how much you won at showdown minus how much you lost at showdown. If this line is negative, it means that you're not winning a lot at showdown and you should look out for calling too much in spots where villain maybe can't be bluffing or isn't bluffing enough or bluffing too much in a spot where you shouldn't be or against villains who likely call.

Red line is non-showdown winnings => This means how much you win by villain folding on any street minus how much you lose by folding when he bets. If this line is positive, it means that you're betting a lot and maybe overbluff in some spots, but it doesn't really matter because your the villains seem to be folding. Or it could mean that you're not defending enough, but that's okay vs villains who rarely bluff.

This is an unusual graph for someone playing small stakes though, it should be the other way around because small-stake-villains are more likely to call worse hands on the river and not bluff enough, which means you should fold more (so your showdown winnings should be higher) and because villains call too much you can't really bluff them off a hand (which makes your non-showdown winnings go down because you shouldn't bluff that often).

This is all general advice for if this trend continues though. Your sample is way too small to conclude anything and I would just focus on your green line.
