imagine this pretty common situation. We raise a hand (doesnt matter which one) from any position besides the BTN and get called by a player who has position on us.

Now the flop comes pretty dry with one broadway card (K72r, J63r, A95r ). We cbet our entire range and our opponent raises our c-bet. How could you defend against this besides hitting top pair or better?
