How are we defending our opens OOP?
Having watched a few of the videos now, in particular some of the more recent ones w/ Peter Clarke, it has been mentioned that due to the high rake at SSNL we don't want to be calling 3-bets OOP since we want avoid a flop to avoid having the hand raked (the rake would eat up whatever marginal EV we would get from defending by calling). If this is the case, what strategy are we using to defend our opens here? As far as I can tell this leaves us with the following choices:
1) Tighten up a ton if there is someone left to act that 3-bets light IP. If so, how much? To have QQ+ and AK be 50% of our opening range would have us be ridiculously tight. I can see this for UTG and maybe even the HJ, but this would lose a ton of steal opportunity in the CO. I'm having trouble figuring out how this would be the right way to go. Which would bring us to...
2) Start 4-betting light OOP. This is is equally confusing as our two options would seem to be:
a) 4-bet polarized. I thought that having a calling range is important when going polarized for 3-betting and 4-betting. Is this maybe a situation where we don't really need a calling range? I remember this being how re-stealing was viewed a lot back in the pre-Black Friday days, and maybe there is some merit to it.
b) 4-bet linear. This doesn't require a calling range, but it seems that this we are going to be brutalized by people flatting us IP and floating post-flop. It just seems really hard to set ourselves up for good decision making here. If we c-f or bet-fold our missed AQ, are we folding the best hand a lot? If we keep going with our TP, can we really be confident we aren't being outkicked or up against an overpair?
3) Just accept that the rake prevents us from adequately defending and get used to folding more of our opens to aggressive 3-bettors than we would like. We tighten up some to reduce the bleed, but still try to open enough to aggressively steal the blinds or isolate weak players in them. This seems like it may be how we have to go but it doesn't sit right enough for me to think it is correct.
This is probably one fo the biggest things coming back that has me straight up confused and having trouble figuring out what to do. Are there any Essential videos, threads, or other resources that someone can suggest to help me get a handle on this? It's bugging the hell out of me and I want to make some progress fixing it.
