GTO-play is a strategy that makes it impossible to loose money in the long run and is a theoretical construct.
So if 2 players play a perfect GTO-strategy none of them is going to loose money (no rake considered).
In real life people deviate from GTO all the time and so this called “equilibrium” rarely exists.
If one player deviates from GTO, playing a GTO-strategy yourself can (and will in reality) be a mistake that looses money in a lot of situations.
Best example is bluffcatching rivers. A solver might say that you would have to bluffcatch some spots with weaker hands.
But in reality people are not bluffing this spot and so your call becomes a loosing play.
If you implement a perfect GTO-strategy you will be a winning player at every stake.
But to really crush a stake, you should more concentrate on exploiting your opponents.
Learn GTO-play and learn when to deviate from it would be my advice.
I second this. You want to study GTO play so you have a decent idea what you or your opponent should be doing in a given spot. You don't do this so you can always make the GTO play, you do this so you can recognize where your opponent is failing to do the right thing in terms of GTO and then figure out the best way to exploit that.
The thing to also keep in mind is that getting anywhere close to GTO play is pretty much impossible for an actual human under any circumstances, let alone within the time limits you have to work with while actually playing.
Run a sim of chart vs chart (gto vs gto) and save it
Run a sim of chart vs pool (gto vs pool) and save it
Same parameters, same board, same bet sizes, etc
Open PIO or GTO+ with the 1st sim
Open a secondary window of PIO or GTO+ with the 2nd sim
Compare/contrast what they look like
Node lock for the high c bet OOP like the pool does
Mostly concentrate on how to play an unexploitable style vs your environment and that is where you will find your exploits.
Ex. If pool c bets 65% in a spot where PIO plays it as a 40% c bet, they are doing something drastically wrong and that is where you want to base your decisions.
In addition to the classic GTO vs explo argument:
No one plays remotely close to GTO. This is like asking "if I play chess like a computer will I crush?" Yes, of course, but not even the world champ plays that well.
no you need to study gto to find how how balanced ranges play and where the marginal ev spots where people are making mistake with hands very close to 0 ev and then exploit them.
