Gross River 50 NL
HJ: $55.69
CO: $51.25 (Hero)
BN: $40.69
SB: $49.50
HJ raises to $1.50, Hero calls $1.50, BN calls $1.50, SB folds, BB folds
I only had 9 hands on villain but can't see most players would play a value hand I beat, like 2 pair or a set, like this. And even if he did on earlier streets, I don't think he's ever shoving this river over my bet as I can still have some flushes (?) in my range.
Don't know if I like my river sizing either, I thought he'd play TT, JJ and maybe 77 this way. Maybe AK w the A or K of spades. VS that range I should probably bet a bit smaller on the river, around 1/3? That aside, I can see 9s10s, As9s, maybe TdJd as well play this way on the turn. I'm still expecting him to barrel a lot of his A high fds on the turn but if he c/c those obv he has a lot more flushes by the river.
Point is I don't think I'm beating any of his value range on this river (tell me if I'm wrong), and I called flop bet w one player left to act behind me, I bet turn and river when "everything" got there (TJ, 67, spades) so I shouldn't have much air in villains eyes I think. I do bet rivers quite wide but this villain doesn't know this so unlikely he's attacking.
Guess this is still a call though if he has some bluffs. Dunno what bluffs that would be but maybe TT, JJ w a spade blocker that he decides is not good anymore?
One of the reasons I bet rivers wide is how rarely I face c/r, esp on boards like this, so I probably don't think as much as I should on how to react when someone does. Intuitively I fold a lot, it just feels like I'm beat mostly, also I play more live where betting aggressively and hero folding is generally a winning strategy. But here I got top set so dunno if I should just close my eyes and call? Also I'd like to hear what sizing you would go with on the river bet and why?
Looking forward to your comments :)

Why did you not 3 bet PF? Any read or stats on villain that made you call?
I don't think I could find the fold button on that river. :S
wow pretty crazy hes got 9xss i guess , cant thinkg of much else.
3b pre is std here
I think sizing wise OTR smaller is probably better im liking 1/3 - although when you bet 1/3 and get x/r'd i feel more like blurgh i have to call now.
That said this spot is pretty gross, I'm similar to you in that when i see a river x/r im just like do i have the nuts - nope... ok lets fold lol, and here i think you are right, you don't beat any of his value range, unless he completely disregards the value of his sets on this board, but its probably unlikely.
Its horrible as he's unknown I feel like generally the 50nl player pool wont check 9x's OTT but would just see TP and a FD and bet the turn regardless so kinda feel like thats out of his range aswell and he wouldnt x/r the river with that hand anyway he'd just bet it for value, so its probably just flush draws/weak pairs and FD's that x/c'd the turn. Thinking about it I think this is a fold - we can still have all the flushes in our range aswell. So its pretty insane for him to x/r bluff the river with just the As blocker knowing we cant have the nuts (coz like if we had 45s here its basically the same as QQ right?) which if he did do which i very highly doubt - fair play :)
I wish you called for results - think about that next time :P
Hi, thanks for your replies :)
I don't have much of a 3bet range vs UTG before I know how they play. Basically AA and KK for value, which is very knittish, but some player have some extreme tendencies, like folding way too much or playing way too much 4bet or fold, I just like to feel it out. I only had 9 hands on villain when this hand played. Vs most opponents I'm 3betting here but vs unknown players it "feels" better to flat vs utg open... This might not be correct. Do you 3bet JJ in this spot?
@RootBeerGuy I know, I hate narrowing someones range down so much, but 9xss felt like a big part of his range there too, or at least it's hard to see what else would take this line, except if he's turning TT or JJ into a bluff, but I think most just call or fold those hands in this spot.
@Ducky When I bet the river I don't think I considered that I might get c/r, bcs villain going bet-c/c-c/r is something I don't see a lot, I should have thought more about my sizing. I also agree with you if I bet like 1/3 I would kinda feel like I have to call it off in that spot, but since I can imagine it would induce some more bluffs I would actually feel a bit better abt it than now, but it's still gross. There's a probability that he bluffed me here, and if he did, wp :) Dunno if I find a fold here w JT, though it's essentially the same thing as QQ if we assume he only got flushes in his value range when he shoves...
haha, I know, that's the worse part with making folds, you don't get the results :p
Ye I think that betting 1/3 defo induces more bluffs which is why we have to be like sighhhhhh ... call.
But ye agreed on his river value range is only flushes
