facing river over bet from a tricky player

BB: BB: $21.07
UTG: UTG: $8.36
HJ: MP: $20.14
CO: CO: $21.20
BN: BTN: $20.20
SB: Hero: $21.44
19/15 751 hands, been tricky the last few days since I am playing with him. Just calling with over pair on a wet board. Min 3 betting from BB with JJ....
Preflop ($0.30) (6 Players)
Hero was dealt A Q
UTG folds, MP folds, CO folds, BTN raises to $0.40, Hero calls $0.30, BB folds
Flop ($1.00) A 9 7 (2 Players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $0.60, Hero calls $0.60
Turn ($2.20) 2 (2 Players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $1.76, Hero calls $1.76
River ($5.72) 2 (2 Players)
Hero bets $3.43, BTN raises to $17.44

I donked on the river to get value from worse aces that would check otherwise. My donk looks quite bluffy representing trips.

I think with one pair hands he would just call. So his range here is polarized to 2 pair+ and bluffs.

I am getting 1,9:1 Since he has been tricky looks like a call to me. Even though it might not be a proffitable call I can do it for information value as I expect to play a lot with him in futere.

What do you think?

Thanks!

no 3 bet PF?

His hands to be bluffing here arent very many. The turn didnt bring any draws, so hes just got some stuff like JT T8 86 etc to be double barreling here.

You say hes been tricky, but all the hands you used an example hes being tricky with are good hands, so that doesnt make me think hes more likely to be bluffing here. Also your donk doesnt look bluffy at all, how do you represent trips when you dont have a single 2x hand in your entire range? Your bet looks pretty much exactly like what it is, Ax that wants value (or 99/77 for the same). You dont even have any hands to be bluffing with here. Given such, I dont expect hes going to bluff raise you if hes really thinking at all about your hand. That said if you think hes a spaz and is going to shove JT here often enough or isnt good enough at hand reading to understand your range, then id click call. But hes got AK/A9/A7/A2/99/77 in his range, so hes needs to be bluffing here a not insignificant amount. So in short, id just go by my read in order to do anything other than fold.

Not 3b-ing is a mistake yeah. It is just bad spot if/when he 4bets it.

All else makes perfect sense, I ll just wait for better spots to gain information about his play.

What are your thoughts about this donk bet? Is it a good play in a spot like this?

If you're unsure about the strength of your hand, and your opponent has shown continuous aggressiveness throughout the hand, I'd just c/c. I wouldn't want to give him the occasion to make a big reraise, and therefore killing my showdown equity when I fold.

I think in a vacuum your donk is prolly really good, cuz it gets called a lot by all his worse Ax that are just checking back cuz they are too weak to value bet, and hes likely giving up his air as well. Gets rather tricky to balance it tho if its something you want to do vs the same opponent a lot tho I would imagine, especially on boards like this were you don't have a lot of really strong hands given your position and are somewhat capped and face up and you also dont have any bluffs.

Given that u didnt 3bet oop with a strong hand that was ur first mistake...having said that his story makes no sense....I think he has something like kk qq and hes betting ip to set his own price...then when u lead the riv on this board he thinks ur bluffing so he overbets the pot....I say snap call....

Hm.. If he thinks I am bluffing wouldn't he just call with KK/QQ.

But on the other side what value hands does he actually shoves here? To do it with 2 pair hands would be extremely thin. Only full houses makes sense.

After he has shown aggression the whole hand, you donk into him. I'm sure it looks really fishy to him, and would induce him to raise you with anything he bet the flop and turn with. All that along with you saying that he is an aggressive and tricky player leads me to think you should definitely call river here.
