Effective Pio Solver study

Hi Guys

I have been using pio solver a lot lately looking at scripting, agg reports, looking at spots in isolation - but i really don't feel as though i am getting the most out of my study time.

Looking for how people approach pio study to really learn the heuristics of spots at a higher level, then drill down into the detail?

You've learned how to use the tools, the next step is to learn why.

Take one node in one spot and figure out everything there is to know about it. Reverse the positions, change the rake, nodelock them to barrel too many flush draws, add and remove bet sizes, make predictions, and repeat.

Drill down into the complexity and try to understand not just what the strategy looks like, but WHY it looks that way.

You've learned how to use the tools, the next step is to learn why.

A wise sentence.

I repeat myself - but I'll gladly do: a solver (like any other tool) is a tool. It's not a learning platform. You wouldn't take a cup of coffee and sit down with your pocket calculator to learn math, right? And Pio is nothing else. It's a calculator.

So, don't waste (life) time by building giant mountains of data with the solver and try to (magically) learn something significant from it. It simply won't happen.

I always suggest the following learning path to my students:

1) Put a question.
2) Plan your answer.
3) Select the appropriate tool(s).
4) Study.
5) Learn.
6) Repeat with #1 (new question).

For #1 - look at spots that you need to work on. Start with a structured leak analysis, or just mark hands in sessions that you were unsure of and try to group them. What situations cause pain to you? That's your question!

For #2 - think about, how you best get to that answer. Focus on efficiency (what's the fastest way with least effort) and effectiveness (what will show the most valuable results). And - very important, and ignored by most! - plan ahead, when your question will be answered (addition will follow at the very end)!! Nature of the game is such that you can spend a lifetime on ANY situation. But you don't need to. So, get an idea what you actually need to figure your current task as done. So you can take the next step.

Rest should be self-explanatory. Don't limit yourself to PioSolver, there are many more tools, most much simpler that still help you getting specific tasks done (with less effort - see #2).

One last word for #5, in addition to #2: studying is NOT learning!! Don't be satisfied with the pure amount of hours you've invested in studying. Learning actually means that you created new information and internalized it. So, part of #2 should be a formulated idea of what you want to achieve. Don't stop before you got that (or you got to purposely revise that idea).
