Does the thoery of effectve stacks apply with hand ranges??
If someone has $1000 dollar stack and the opponent has $500. The effective stack is $500. So if there is a spot where one player has 20 hands in his range and the other has 5 hands. Could you say the effective hands are 5.

It took me a while to understand this question.
So you're making a comparisson right? Effective stack is the lowest stack. Is the same true for hand combo's?
And the answer is no. Why would it be? It should be more like combinatorics. Where the amount of possibilities is 20 hands x 5 hands so 100 different possibilities (Disregarding potential blockers).
Say I reach the river and my opponents betting 20 handsfrom his, my calling range is 5 hands. Is the effective range 5 hands??
I know I'm wrong, but I'm just struggling to visualize ranges.
I think you're just misunderstanding the word effective. If we get to the river and you have 50bb in your stack, then it doesn't matter if I have 50, 51, 500, or 50000bb in my stack, the most I can put in is 50bb. The amount of chips I can put in depends on the amount of chips you have. 'Effectively' my stack is 50bb since that's the most I can put in.
If we get to the river and you somehow only have 5 hands in your range, nothing is stopping me from playing any 2 cards and getting to the river with every possible hand. My range doesn't depend on your range, it depends only on the choices I have made.
