Deserved this river jam

BN: $334.53
SB: $813.64 (Hero)
BB: $968.80
UTG: $579.70
HJ: $290.18
CO: $1207.21
Villian is a very good and super aggro reg.
He's definitely in top 5 of players who piss me off, though that's because he's owned me a bunch. :)
Preflop ($7.50) (6 Players)
Hero was dealt 8 9
UTG folds, HJ folds, CO folds, BN folds, Hero raises to $15, BB calls $10
Flop ($32.50) 9 4 5 (2 Players)
Hero checks, BB bets $15, Hero calls $15
Once I check, I expect a 3-barrel about 80% of the time, but I think this hand is close to mandatory flop check.
Turn ($62.50) 9 4 5 K (2 Players)
Hero checks, BB bets $41, Hero calls $41
Knew the 3-barrel was coming. He still has QJ/JT/67/87/A2/A3/diamonds in his range and maybe some random barrels. Don't think I can fold.
River ($144.50) 9 4 5 K K (2 Players)
Hero checks, BB bets $85, Hero raises to $220, BB raises to $897.80, and is all in, Hero folds
Really annoying sizing because it allows him to value bet A8, and I think calling is a mistake. Maybe it's slightly exploitable because I'm somewhat high up in my range.
With the amount of bluffs he has though, he might want to bet bigger.

My thinking was that I'm check-calling KQ/AK a lot on the flop and turn, and I'd probably c/r those hands small on the river.

But when I clicked raised, I was pretty sure I'd get jammed on, which I think is going to happen against strong players, so I deserved it.

I lose to K9/K5s/44/55, and I beat the hands I mentioned for his turn range, though he obviously wouldn't bluff all of them.

Thoughts on my entire line, especially the river?
Final Pot
BB wins $579.20

I don't understand how you can expect him to just 3barrell this board 80% of the time but still think your hand is too weak to call river?

Just curious. We beat all his bluffs, why don't we check/call? I'm just not sure what we achieve by check raising. do you want to make him fold his better 9x hands?

Villians knows he has plenty of bluffs, and I expect him to use this sizing close to never with a value hand. I'm indeed trying to make him fold his thin value bet, balance out my Kx c/r, and being tougher to play against in general.

Agree with all my foreposters, I´d say okaygo nailed it first.

Why would you CR small OTR if you perceive him for mostly A9 type hands?  CR'ing large makes more sense to me for your range, and also deters him from bluff jamming , which you want with your exact hand.

I think that betting the flop is better than checking be we are probably going to be betting most of our air here as well.  We need to have some thin value hands as well and I think a bet, check, check line could be more profitable.

I also think that we have a good bluff catcher and we can call almost any river here.  I don't get the raise on the river but I'm sure you had some reasoning behind it.

Just seems better to be check calling here overall.

Yes he gets to the river with a lot of bluffs, but this exact river is very bad for his range, so I don't think he is perceived to be bluffing river much. Versus bad players folding or c/r river is probably ok, but vs a good player river is just a snap in my opinion. He is going to have enough bluffs and you are pretty high up in your range given that you probably are not check calling that many stronger nines on the flop. I think its possible that he is exploiting that your calling range is inelastic on a paired river.
