Deriving opening ranges
Hi Guys,
Around the forums and on many of the videos there is a lot of conversation about range construction, however this seems to be focused entirely on narrow postflop spots, (obviously because the analysis is easier) however there isnt much discussion about how to derive a preflop opening range.
So my question is how would I go about deriving opening ranges, obviously this is much harder than postflop analysis, but any help or pointers in the right direction would be amazing.
Cheers,
Ryan

Hi Ryan,
The key points to preflop range construction is
1. Likelyhood of the best hand preflop (i.e. opening up a 40th percentile hand with 5 players left is unlikely to be the best hand)
2. Does it make the nuts (If I flop my flush do I win?).
3. Board Coverage (If the board comes out T98 do I have hands that I can play?)
4. Experimentation (If I play 52s, do I make money with it?)
That actually helps a lot thanks,
I'll try working on it, and let you know how it goes!
