Defending vs 4bets w Tight 3B Range
Been trying to improve my game recently by creating more optimal ranges that altering it with player pool tendencies in game. This is my 3B range vs UTG.
Two questions:
1) Is a 1.5 bluff to value ratio for a 5B correct? (Not sure how this is calculated because of the equity we have when called with our bluffs)
2) I'm currently 3 combos short. My options are to 5B AKs (not ideal vs 4B/call range) or flat AK/QQ, but feel this range is way too defined and villains can play very well vs me (e.g. KQx boards).
Side note: If anyone can link we to a video/post about how our 3B range changes depending on our position (as the chance of getting getting CC or C4bet decreases), it would be greatly appreciated.

So you are not calling anything ?
Don't think 3bet/folding AKs,QQ is the best option
I agree, but 3bet/calling leaves us with a narrow range that villains can play well against.
What would you suggest to do? 3b/c, 5b AKs or tighten my intial 3B range although they're ahead of UTG defending range.
Personally prefer to call them and do so with aces too sometimes
Interesting, pokersnowie suggest a mix between flatting and 5B with our value range. It also suggests calling A2s 4% of the time too.
You're suggesting we 5b Axs but fold AK/QQ?
Yeah lmao. Not sure how to design a 5B range tbh, can't find any essential videos about it on here, just read on a donkr post about it.
Is that your own excel spreadsheet you made or is that exported from a specific poker software?
Yeah its my own on google docs
This 3bet range looks too tight for 6max. Maybe this is OK for BB and MP against 13% open, but CO, BTN and SB 3bet ranges should be wider.
AK combos should be better than AXs hands as "5bet bluffs" and mostly because they reduce villains AA and KK combos by 50%.
Being OOP you can maybe just fold all hands except AK and QQ+ and 5bet them.
IP you can call most QQ and AA and 5bet some KK, AA and AK and maybe some A5s.
Thanks for your response, all of that makes sense. Are we doing this with all combos of AK/QQ (or just enough to defend MDF)?
Don't bother with MDF. Call the hands that play well as calls, 5bet the hands that are good to 5bet and fold the other hands.
AA and AKs play well as calls IP. KK and AK play well as 5bet. QQ should be strong enough to both 5bet and flat in most spots, but it requires some 4bet bluffs and AK 4bets... but if villain doesn't do that he is super tight.
Sounds good, thanks a ton ;)
