Looking back at the hand it was probably a mistake to bet so high if my intention was to bet/fold on the turn, and at the time I realised I should have bet more in the region of 2.75, but I was completely confused by the opponents play and I just had no idea where I stood.
Could anyone give me clarification on the potential hand range my opponent could have had?

Check the turn, even if that means letting your opponent draw for free. If you bet, you have almost no fold equity and there's almost nothing you beat but some combo draws that he doesn't know how to play.
His value range is 66/77/maybe 67/AK and I think at 10NL he shoves KQ.
Yeah I agree with checking on the turn, he's quite likely to fold 88-JJ there to a barrel but might call some rivers and he can have lots of hands that beat you.
why are we checking the turn, cuz he called our cbet??
Because very few worse hands call and we have little fold equity if he check-shoves.
And for slight deception against 7x, 88-QQ.
