Calling 3bets versus tight ranges (my problem areas and some examples to follow)
Lets begin with my default BTN c3b defend from the blinds {TT-22 Axx BWs AQo-ATo KQo} Depending on villain's 3bet/4bet stats i will 4bet for value with QQ+/JJ+/TT+ AK+, TT+ AQ+ i use offsuit Ace rag hands to 4bet bluff as i use my suited Ace hands to defend - my BTN open is 50%+ so i need more combos hands to defend and i find Axx play better. What i do need to look at is what villain's 3bet stats should look like to warrant be defending more or less than my GTO constructed ranges? My problem is likely postflop play not preflop possibly
Some challenge areas:
1. When villain's range is tight, proximity affects means that the BWs hands like KJs/QJs/KTs/QTs/JTs are running into trouble when flopping a pair without backup, so faced with a turn barrel i'm in a lot of trouble.
2. Frequencies of villain cbetting in 3bet pots and doubling barreling don't converge readily.
3. when i'm 'soft tilting' i play too passive fit-or-fold thats when i call too many 3bets (i'm more disciplined now to stick to my ranges given stats) without a plan or fold the flop or call flop and fold the turn
4. It surprises me how often i get folds when i do raise in 3bet pots YET i don't do it enough. The Queen high two-tone and J high two-tone come to mind, some low connected boards.
5. Some players have overly-tight 3bet ranges to compensate for poor postflop play. I see them cbet bad boards for their range. Once i know they do this i can adjust but i won't always know this in advance
6. If i'm 'hard tilting' then i overplay my hand postflop or call down incorrectly
Question
Hypothetical A: If villain had a 3bet stat of .. lets say he only 3bets JJ+ AK and cbets 100% in 3bet pots. How would i respond? Would i only call with pairs to set mine? what about AKo AK AQ. i've never really taken time to think about this. i think i need to run some flop equity graphs hand vs range or something
Hypo B: villain cbets then gives up turn, how much equity do i need to float? - i will try calculate this myself, i'm just adding it here for completeness as i really want to tackle calling 3bets - i think its a weak part of my game
Hypo C: what stats would suggest to you to take non-standard lines - specifically what 3bet stat values may want you to fold more foten or call versus 4betting with premium hands?
[i will post this now, but will edit and define things better. This will be an ongoing post for sure]
Filtered for c3b IP. The SB stat would be for Heads Up Play.
What should my bb/100 be if i decide to fold to the 3bet instead if my BTN open is 2.5x? i assume -250bb/100
