Call 4bet with marginal hands, really ?
Hi,
I was working on my preflop ranges from/vs UTG and I just realised something interesting. I wanted to add some really strong combo to my calling range vs an utg raise, so I cut out some AKs, QQ and AQ combos from my 3betting range. I decided to do that because :
1) Im not very comfortable 3betting QQ, AQ, and even AK (when Im stacking off with those, Im never ahead of his range so I think im wasting valuable hands..)
2) I think they play well postflop IP vs utg range and it add value to my calling range.
After removing them, my 3betting range looked like that:
AA, KK, AKo ("value")
A5s,A4s, some combos of KQ and AJ ("bluff" with bloquers and postflop value)
The big problem with that is my 5bet range makes me exploitable because its too tight. Its too easy for UTG to just start 4betting almost every time with ATC when I 3bet. Since my 3betting range is AA, KK and AKo for "value", I only have a 5betting range and no calling range.
To prevent him for exploiting me, I should probably have a 4bet calling range. This way, he couldnt 4bet ATC profitably. I could put QQ, AKs, AQs, AQo back in my 3betting range and call the 4bet with them, but im not happy either 3betting hand like QQ and AQ vs and UTG open for the reason I mentionned earlier..
Any ideas/ thoughts ?
Thx
