The villain in this hand has shown the capability to be bluffing in a variety of spots with a VPIP of 40%, PFR 12%, 3bet 8% over a very small sample of 60 hands. So, I went into this hand expecting to do some inducing and bluff-catching.

I've been experimenting with different size bets to isolate. It seems like 4 bb is about the minimum to have any kind of fold equity. I've gone as high as 8 bb with stronger hands. I haven't noticed opponents making any adjustments at this point.
I don't think that this raise has reduced the villain's range much as they have been continuing very widely to this size.
They haven't 4-bet much so I don't think we can eliminate the strongest part of their range.

So, I follow through here with a c-bet. I've been almost range c-betting in a lot of spots lately for a small size. When the opponent plays back, I feel confident in calling. I've seen this opponent check-raise the flop and then check-fold the turn more than once already. I'd almost be more concerned with a call from this opponent.

I wonder about this check behind. I thought that letting the villain bluff the river was reasonable but maybe not great with 99. There is a world where the opponent bluffed a 6 and is trapping now but I thought that there were quite a few pocket pairs, flush draws, and random 1-club hands the opponent would bluff with on the flop that could go for it on the river.
I don't have a strong read on if the opponent always fast plays their value after the flop check-raise.

I really didn't like seeing this size with this river card. 45 gets there which isn't ideal, but there are still a lot of bluffing candidates with missed flush draws, and any 1-club hands that they could go for a bluff with.
I didn't have a strong bet-sizing tell for this opponent which really pushed me toward a fold. I would have been pretty happy to call anything pot-size and below but this just always seems strong.
So I guess for value the opponent can have some combos of T6, 36, 62, some slow-played sets TT, 33, 66, 6x, some combos of the straight with 45o and 22 that got there on the river. I don't necessarily think the opponent has all of these combos given the action so far. Some of them will fold pre-flop, some of them will be checked back on the flop, and some will be value bet on the turn. But when the opponent bets 5/3 pot he has to be bluffing more than 3/8 or 37.5% of the time for this to be a profitable call. That is starting to feel a little optimistic at this point.

What do you all think about the river decision?

I like your line and reasoning. Folding river vs this size is probably best vs recreationals who aren't maniacs but I would call a normal sized bet.
Thanks Steve. I wish in the moment I had found the fold but I can at least get it right with the benefit of hindsight.
It’s tough to find the fold after setting up the bluff but the bet size is such a dominating new piece of information to consider.
Hopefully, next time I can control the impulse to call in this spot.
I also play 50NL on Bovada and have noticed that overbets like this on the river are rarely bluffs even if you set him up for the bluff. The exception is if you have a read on a maniac, but for any player with a full stack or more and little to no read I would get in the habit of making this fold 100%
