Hi all, first time posting here. Relatively new player and just working through the ground-up course.
One thing I struggle with is bet sizing and tend to not bet enough for value or to small.
The thought process here was that on the flop is I am ahead of a lot of hands so bet the range for a small bet. Should I have bet 60% on this board?
Turn hits the set so I'm betting for value and to charge flush draws etc
The river is a terrible card in a multi-way pot for our range as flush draws get there however I felt checking behind would be playing scared and could get some value out of hands such as q9, tt, jj, 55, 97 etc so it was more of a blocking bet.
Any comments appreciated about the thought process or how the hand was played would be appreciated. Thanks

Multiway flops do work a bit differently than heads up. There are two ranges you need to keep in mind. In general in muliway action is checked to IP who will bet a small size often. So small size is fine. Your exact sizing might be a bit too low but still good thought proces.
If you want to look into multiway pots a bit more. There's an essential video (you get one month free with FTGU) from coach Qing Yang on multiway pots. It's worth the watch.
So did you size up because now you have a strong hand? Or are you applying the theory of Selective Cbetting? When we are more selective in the hands we are betting we are betting a bigger size.
This would be considered going for some small value. When we bet small then they have to call often (see video Pyramidical defense). So forcing them to call their single pair hands as well. Now it might be that they never are. And if they aren't then we would want to bet bigger to get more value from the weaker hands they can have.
Sure they can have a flush but that's no need to play scared. There are plenty of hands that we beat that will call a bigger size such as the hands you listed.
How are you liking the course? I loved it.
Thanks for the comment, thats awesome. Yes the course is fantastic. Learnt so much already from the first watch.
Re the size on the turn i think i was caught in two minds. Was mainly for value.
Ill check out the mutiway video, thanks for the advice
You absolutely cannot be betting flop small and only betting turn huge when you hit the nuts.
With that being said, I don't think you need to be at the level of knowing how to bet small on flop and playing wide ranges on the turn since you are a new player. You don't need these small betting ranges at all to beat micro stakes to begin with and its relatively advanced concept that advanced players don't even touch until after a few years of playing. Better to focus on other stuff.
Just as a standard, you can cbet half pot in most spots and feel fine about it. Like cbetting 77 here 1/2 pot is fine, you get overs to fold and you also get some thin value. It's the easiest way to play tbh. Yes GTO theory you should probably be checking or betting 1/4 pot here but that just adds 2 more ranges and you've already got your plate full as a new player, so don't worry about it.
Thanks james, does look to polarised when i bet out on the turn.
I’m going to have to disagree with this, given that we’re taking about 2nl. While I think the flop sizing is too small, it is absolutely fine at 2nl to:
Obviously it’s important to know what you should be doing theoretically, but those exploitative adjustments are crucial when people are playing as badly as the average 2nl player is.
Side note: How do we know these 2 players are fish? SB flats a 3x open out of position and the BB starts the hand less than 100bb deep. These are both red flags to me which indicate that these players are unaware/unskilled.
Knowing what we know about these player types, here’s how I would play the hand:
Flop: I like betting, but I’d go slightly bigger - around half pot. You can still get called by some weaker hands and you gain more protection against 2 random overcard hands.
Turn: I’d go massive on the turn once you make what is effectively the nuts. I like your sizing of almost pot. I know you mention above that you’re worried it looks too polarised. I don’t think you need to worry about this at all. A fish won’t be thinking about what your line means. They likely won’t be thinking anything at all beyond “I have a pair, I’m going to call”. Against 2nl fish, there’s no need to worry about being balanced. I’d be betting large with a very value heavy range here.
River: Again, I’d go massive - around pot.
This guy’s a fish, so I’m not expecting him to fold a flopped 9 and certainly not a rivered Q or 2 pair. What I’m saying is: his range is wide enough that you can DEFINITELY get called by lots of worse hands, even when sizing up. He’s almost never raising a worse hand, so I think it’s a fairly trivial bet-fold if he does raise. I think you miss out on lots of value by betting under 1/3 pot on the river.
Thanks. Have had some sucess with a 1/3 pot bet. Think i just need to play more hands and see what works. I know my win rate was hampered by underbetting and not getting value out of winning hands.
All slowly getting alot better but do still find myself getting caught in two minds
