Beating rake 25nl
I posted the following about a vid from James Hudson and given he said I should ask here, here I am:
Speaking about multiple stakes, how do you think the rake effects opening/calling ranges and stuff if you compare 25nl with lets say 200nl? Like I heard coaches say ''you can open wider since u get 3bet less'', but I never heard people talk about rake. Also like the argument of ''but villains are worse'' is something I never got, since obviously I am worse myself aswell lol. And like I know I should be able to see im HM what is profitable to open and what not, but my volume isn't that big that I can really read anything from that I guess. Tnx
Basically I wonder if I should open the same ranges/call same ranges as coaches do in videos, or that I should tighten up a lot given rake. Hope that makes sense.

I have actually never thought about this myself, but I am very curious to hear what someone enlightened has to say about it!
I don´t think you should care about the rake when defining your strategy. Take a look here:

Obviously it depends on what site you play, but for example on FTP (which is right in the middle) the difference in rake between NL25 and NL200 is 4.5bb/100. If you have a VPIP of 25% that means the rake difference per hand you actually play is 0.18bb. I´m not sure if that is worth adjusting your opening-strategy.
What gets significant though, but that´s nothing new, is that your winrate BEFORE rake has to be way higher on the lower stakes to beat the higher rake.
I have thought about this question in the past when I played lower stakes. IMO its hard to say anything concrete about opening ranges. I think there is an argument for tightening up when we expect to be getting involved with regulars(when we are at lower stakes), say we take 1 player who plays 200NL who has WR of 2bb/100 and a 25NL grinder who also has a WR of 2bb/100, but at 25NL. Say each grinder is considering opening BvB, lets assume both grinders are opening into grinders of equal skill sets relative to themselves, I would argue that the 25NL grinder should open tighter because more rake in bb/100 is paid relative to higher stakes, lower stakes games require a higher fish to pro ratio in order to have grinders clear the rake. In essence more of our WR at lower stakes is derived from having proportionally more fish in order to beat the rake.
I think there may be an argument for having a larger raise size on the button at lower stakes, as we should be more adverse to to blinds calling relative to higher stakes where we obviously pay less rake in bb/100.
If you have a VPIP of 25% that means the rake difference per hand you actually play is 0.18bb.
Seems quite a lot to me. Like with the stealing it is not really a problem since you pay no rake when you steal with success, but I think you can't defend as wide OOP vs steals since the rake hits you harder. That said, rake is 4.5% on all limits on pokerstars for example, only the cap gets relatively smaller a lot the higher you play. Might be good because of that to cut down with the suited connectors/suited aces from EP and like the Q9s etc from CO since they are more likely to play bigger pots?
