BB with A5o in NL2

Blinds: $0.01/$0.02 (5 Players) CO: $1.14
BN: $2.00
SB: $1.41
BB: $3.23 (Hero)
UTG: $0.93
I played most pots in this session against SB who liked to limp pretty often and floated my opens almost every time (usually out of position). Had not yet limped to induce with a value hand.
Preflop ($0.03) Hero is BB with 5 A
3 folds, SB calls $0.01, Hero raises to $0.08, SB calls $0.06
If SB is going to call me with 99% of his range, is it actually correct to check behind here? I had been limped to a few times in the BB already and checked behind with weak hands, I felt this guy was actually paying attention to me. If I raise and get called I play a bigger pot in position and can rep a bigger hand but if I check behind I can reevaluate and occasionally win a big pot with a well disguised hand, however I don't feel that will happen enough, and so I raise.
Flop ($0.16) 2 4 A
SB checks, Hero bets $0.06, SB calls $0.06
I don't like my sizing here at all. I felt that against this player, who could very well have another weak ace (all of which I am behind except A3), I could expect a raise if he hit. I felt that by betting small I was giving myself room to fold to a raise as I had not seen him raise as a semi bluff a single time.
Turn ($0.28) 2 4 A Q
SB checks
This is the situation where I felt a little bit lost. SB called pre, as per usual, and check/called flop. I was caught between betting for protection and charging draws and controlling the pot to avoid valuetowning myself against a better ace. If he really was paying attention to me as I believed then he would have seen my range as decently wide with this run out, and could let me hang myself.

Looking back over it now, I think I should have paid attention to my own read on him. He didn't raise flop, so very likely did not have an ace and that makes this spot a very clear value bet. How's my analysis?
