BB defend vs SB

I lose to much in the blinds atm, 27bb SB en 51bb BB. I want to improve that. At the moment my VIP of the SB is even higher then in BB. What is pretty wrong.

My first problem is with what kind of range hands is the best to defend vs a SB open. vs a 25% SB open 45% and even 75%+ and what do you 3b?

If SB is opening to 3bb, you should defend about 40% of hands. Unless SB is extremly tight I wouldn't defend less. Just take hands with equity to defend with. Defending slightly above 40% sould be ok in most cases

Standardly, I tend to call a lot and 3bet a polarized range: for value something between 99+, AQ+ and TT+, AK; as bluffs suited junk with blockers; polarized because I think people don't call many 3bets oop.

If SB is stealing a lot, I would add medium strehgth hands (KQ,AJ) and also a few more bluffs (e.g. T8s, J9s) to my 3bet range to apply maximum pressure on his weak range. Vs. Such a player I would also defend vs 4bets mostly by calling a relative wide range (including premiums). However, I still wouldn't defend much more than 40% in total (maybe up to ~50%).

One other thing: You should definitely not play fit or fold on flops, but try to realise your positional advantage (i.e. raising and foating flops vs. cbets)

Ya this is a spot I ve been thinking a lot about lately as well. I don t have an exact strategy worked out but I am sure that 40% defend is far too tight except vs the tightest of sb steals. The minimum defense frequency is 40% but thats with action ending right OTF. You have the advantage generally in this spot so you can defend quite wide.

vs the 25% range I d start with idk 40-45% of hands. AA-22,AxKx-Ax2x,AxKy-Ax2y,KxQx-Kx2x,KxQy-Kx7y,QxJx-Qx2x,QxJy-Qx9y,JxTx-Jx8x,JxTy,Tx9x,Tx8x,Tx9y,9x8x,9x7x,8x7x,8x6x,7x6x,6x5x,5x4x. This looks like a good starting point.

vs 45% I d go to ~60% of hands. AA-22,AxKx-Ax2x,AxKy-Ax2y,KxQx-Kx2x,KxQy-Kx2y,QxJx-Qx2x,QxJy-Qx6y,JxTx-Jx2x,JxTy-Jx7y,Tx9x-Tx5x,Tx9y,Tx8y,9x8x-9x5x,9x8y,8x7x-8x5x,8x7y,7x6x-7x4x,7x6y,6x5x,6x4x,6x5y,5x4x,5x3x,4x3x This is where I d be looking to start.

vs 75% I would fold only the absolute trashiest of trash. T2o and such. This player is def very exploitable and you should be going to war with them. They just can not defend that raise nearly enough.

Also vs a minraise strategy that some people play I refuse to fold a hand vs them. Often they are opening over 50% and your getting a crazy good price.

I agree with the polarized range however I will 3 bet some hands that I m not jamming for value. KQ and such. It really depends on villain and their tendencies. AA-99,AxKx-AxJx,AxKy,AxQy This range is nearly an auto 3 bet for me and I m generally ready to jam it all over a 4 bet.

Sounds reasonable. As I finished writing, I also thought 40%-50%, is probably too tight against a loose opener.

Concerning the 45% scenario: The main difference between a 50% and 60% range seem to be hands like K7o-K2o,Q7o-Q6o,J7o. Against a 45% range they certainly have enough equity. However, they have very poor playability and reverse implied odds. What's your plan with hands like these. Would you 3 bet them?

Oh yes and this is a spot where some HU practice really helps. HUnl used to be my main game so I m ok with playing a ton of junk IP but ya its quite tricky. Its worth the effort to get good in this spot though as its one of the best chances to really get a big edge on dudes.

With these kind of range, you will raising flops a lot I guess or not ? Do you have % of BB vs SB how much you raise the flop? Because with these kind of range I think raising a lot better then floaten, because you will miss a lot of flops or have just to poor equety to float.

Thnx I can a lot with this information, I have checked and I have a VPIP of 30% on BB vs SB so I can make that a lot wider because their are a lot of people stealen 50%+
