Basic Preflop Thought Process
Hey guys! Did I miss anything that can be added? is it too bland? I want to keep it simple and easy to remember. Thanks!
4 Steps: (PSPA).
* Check hole cards (1 card after the other with suit).
1- Position.
2- Stacks.
3- Players.
4- Adjustments

A little broad, but seems fine overall.
I usually don't have a particular process. But in my warm-up before my session, I always go over preflop ranges (open, call, 3-bet).
The other main point I keep in mind are the players in the blinds. Are they fish or good? Will they 3-bet me?
Your outlined process is more methodical. If it works for you, it's fine.
In general, preflop thought process should be smooth, like a tennis player's serve -- since you do it so many times. To translate it to Tendler's terms, it should be learnt to the level of unconscious competence.
Nice! Did you make yourself up a warm up sheet yet? I think focusing/remembering the things I forget could be simpler than going through the process every time. (during play anyways) But practicing while studying will get it ingrained in my brain.
Just little boo boos that could be removed with more thinking ahead and less rushing. Still working on my serve ;) (Good analogy since it’s the start of the “play”)
Thanks belrio42!
I think not all preflop situations are created equal. Some hands simply play themselves while others seem closer decision. During play I try to recognize marginal EV spots and devote more attention to them. Sometimes I recognize that I simply don't know and will need to work it out away from the table. With time, spots that I thought were close before seem clearer to me now.
from BB/SB you definitely need to add something : maybe open raise sizing, table image and your image... possible more I can't think on the hand
Thanks guys!
I know from the SB an alarm always goes off in my head. I consider being OOP to everyone and the high rake. I tend to 3bet/fold most of the time vs CO and BTN opens but if there's mark in the BB or the opener plays fit or fold then i could cold call there with the right hands.
As for playing the marginal spots I'll keep that in mind. Fold the ones where I'm OOP with other action going on other tables and "experiment" with the ones IP or when "card dead".
