Happens all the time or at least it seems so. I think you are tilted/ biased towards the outcome, while you have to think of this. If villain is uncapable of hand reading / too much of a gambler to call cold 4bets with KTs, you will win 20bb each time he calls pre and misses. You will win 20bb++ from him when he calls and hits some piece, ofc you can get outdrawn then too, but you will be the EQ favorite against any of his pieces. Only thing to consider is whether you want to size up your cold 4bet in order to win more BB preflop if he still makes calls like that, especially when you are somewhat deeper and OOP.

you always 4bet that size? what are you standard sizing depending on positions and whatever else for 4betting if you don't mind teeling. I always go x2.2 and x2.2+1 when oop haven't really read or hear anything about 4bet so I'm pretty clueless about what's "best" for people

Disharmonist 9 years, 2 months ago

When most of your 4bets are for value, you can aim for a bigger size in general, I dont think ppl dont exploit you, when you still look like you could be folding a gainst a semibluff jam.

David Jimenez 9 years, 2 months ago

I'm not sure I understood you, I'm sorry. You're saying that people would be less inclined to semi-bluff shove my 4bet when I make it a bigger size?

Disharmonist 9 years, 2 months ago

The choice of your title implies that you are trying to express your negative emotions towards the hand / the player, rather than seeking strategical advice. I like to know if you would have posted this when villain would have shown TT or QQ.

David Jimenez 9 years, 2 months ago

No haha
I thought of QQ but was hoping for KK, AQ
And you're completely right I still would like to know though would have you done anything different?

Disharmonist 9 years, 2 months ago

You could try to apply a x/call x/c x/c line. When villain has you beat, the results will be the same as bet bet bet anyways, when he has air, you maximize your value. with his AQ /kk I dont know if either line is much better than the other or equal in terms of longterm results.

that just happened too...

Pretty meh, but I think I'd actually fold against a reg here(unless we have some reads). Calling with KK+ simply because then he can show up with QQ sometimes. Also blocking the Qh is fairly bad.

KatonBond 9 years, 2 months ago

I'm not quite sure about sizing, I dont even know the correct sizing but i think I would have 4bet 2.1-2.4 since you guys are deep but its a small detail and I could be wrong.

Flop is standard.

On the turn, generally speaking if hes a reasonable guy I dont think he will call 3 barrels with Qx unless you have reads hes fishy/stationy, even most people would be hard pressed to call KQ AQ to 3 barrels after a 4bet because your only potential bluff is AK and that might will probably check turn more often then not to showdown and in this case your villain blocks AK. Also its not a good thing you heavily block AQ which is the primary hand your looking to get value from, so I would look to check turn and call down most rivers or bet fold most rivers. Also him having QQ here is very plausible and a big threat which also leans me towards checking turn. As played if your going to 3 barrel I would actually bet around 2.5~ so SPR OTR is nicer to shove.

On the river as played its a fine barrel off.

Overall I dont think this hand is a cooler. x/c on the turn then probably x/c OTR seems better to me then a barrel barrel. Also everyones AA gets cracked once in a while. Also he played the hand generally quite(primarily calling KTcc OOP) bad so I wouldnt be so sad.

The second hand you posted is a cooler but is that the first time some one flopped a set vs ur overpair? That kind of thing happens to everyone, its normal and nothing special. You didnt play the hand bad you just got unlucky which happens to everyone.

Kuduku 9 years, 2 months ago

As played there just aren't enough bluffs in most people's ranges on the river to make me want to check call this "bluffcatcher", and I don't think you can value-bet without value-cutting yourself frequently. I mean what range is he supposed to have that pays you off 3 streets? AQ? We block that and he might not 3bet AQ pre. KQs/QJs? maybe but I don't expect him to relentlessly shove river with those. Many people would check back QK and QJ otr imo. KJs? Don't think he calls turn. So what range does that leave villain with otr? QQ, TT, AT, KT, QT, JT, T9.
I guess that check-folding AA otr could be exploited to some marginal extent but I doubt anybody at ssnl will be able to do so. Check-calling is fine if you think villain is dumb or out of line, floats often etc. But most people will just show you effective nuts there by the time they get to river.

Fwiw, preflop your 4b sizing is too small. A pot sized bet would be about 3$, I'd 4bet somewhere between 2.6$ and 3.1$ there. I don't have any real bluffs in my range there preflop (QQ+, AK) so I don't mind having a large 4bet sizing overall in this spot. I'd be folding AK to a jam obv, but the cold-4bet is still for value. It just doesn't do very well against villain's 5b/jam range and we're deep so I'd fold the AK combos. QQ would be close-ish but I think it's fine to call it off.
