I perceive his lead as a semi-bluff or top-pair type of range so I decided to get some value.

Here my question is if it's better to check or continue betting and maybe buy a checkback on the river?

Well played. We want to check once on the turn K, I tend to do it on the turn aswell.
I would tend to play this hand basically the same. So I can't really fault the play here. But just thinking aloud:
The K on turn is good for your range. So one option is to bet small on turn and check safe rivers (like this one).
You probably should have some top pair or better in your turn check-back range. Because, you're betting most top pairs on turn, and if you're folding this hand to a check-raise on river, you're folding all second pairs. So your hand becomes rather face up. Maybe KQ on turn makes a good check-back candidate.
