AQo, 3way pot.

CO: dlcosbuc: $55.08
BN: Spungeh: $25
SB: Keep On Giving: $34.18
BB: GINOM22: $55.95
UTG: beba1984: $17.42
HJ: VelizarJJ: $16.81
N/A
Preflop ($0.35) (6 Players)
Spungeh was dealt A Q
beba1984 raises to $1.25, VelizarJJ folds, dlcosbuc calls $1.25, Spungeh calls $1.25, Keep On Giving folds, GINOM22 folds
Guy opens pretty big to 5x pre flop, would of folded pre but got 3:1 odds on a potentially huge pot.
Flop ($4.10) 5 J Q (3 Players)
beba1984 checks, dlcosbuc bets $1.50, Spungeh calls $1.50, beba1984 calls $1.50
flop all spades, with the nut blocker in my hand, and also top pair top kicker, I wanted to stay around here, especially as it was made so cheap.
Turn ($8.60) 5 J Q 6 (3 Players)
beba1984 checks, dlcosbuc checks, Spungeh checks
bink nut flush here. I check behind as they arn't showing to much aggression, and hoping that maybe IP they will bet some weaker flush hands, or some kind of dodgy pairs if they think they are ahead
River ($8.60) 5 J Q 6 J (3 Players)
beba1984 bets $4.75, dlcosbuc raises to $16.25, Spungeh raises to $22.25, and is all in, beba1984 folds, dlcosbuc calls $6
not a great card, and when it gets bet into this is kind of what I really wanted. the range that I put him on really doesnt smell like a FH to me at the moment of playing the hand. Looking back it kind of makes sense for him to have JQ, 55, 66 , JJ here.. Its not extremely likely, but the way I played my hand, I was going all in on pretty much all rivers.
Final Pot
Spungeh has A Q dlcosbuc has J J dlcosbuc wins $54.96
Flips over quads.
Maybe do I bet the turn to get some weaker flushes that dont bet to call, also sets would probably call the turn bet and maybe give up if i was to barrell the river again. Maybe as played i fold the river?

I would bet the turn with your hand especially given that it's a multiway pot. It's going to be very difficult for no one to have a flush or a set when two other people put money in on the flop. A set is pretty much never going to fold the turn in a single raised pot due to their redraw and implied odds. I would also assume that most big flushes (10s+) aren't folding the turn either. With that in mind, the only reason to check back the turn is to either pick off a bluff from one of the other two players who both likely have some showdown value and will have to bluff two other players OR because we hope that one of the players will make a looser call on the river than they would on the turn.

Once you get to the river it's probably just a fold given that it gets bet and raised in front of and people rarely raise the king high flush in this spot especially on a 4 flush board where the board just paired. Even if you're not going to fold you certainly don't want to raise as there's very little value to raising and you're essentially over representing your hand.

It's great that you had a plan for the river but you need to be willing to revise your plan for hands when something happens in the hand that drastically changes your opponents' ranges. In this case, the river makes it so your hand is no longer the nuts and both players show lots of strength by betting and raising before the action even gets to you.

I think James broke it down perfectly.

Checking back the turn and raising the river on a brick actually looks stronger to me than betting twice, so I'd abet the turn almost always.

Thanks for sharing the hand. Hopefully we can answer some more questions for you soon. Welcome to the site!

James is spot on. It's important to think about the entire range of hands you have in each junction of the hand and deduce how that range matches up against your opponents, and consequently, how you want to divide up your range. On this turn with this action, it's definitely a spot that we're going to sometimes have the nuts (like this time) and as such, we'll also be able to represent these nuts by bluffing our weakest non-spade hands.

Instead of thinking about your specific hand (AsQx) and how you can extract the most value (ie. your thought process was "well I think I'll get my value from the river street"), think about how to extract the most value with your ENTIRE range. By betting AsQx on the turn, you get to bluff with some hands that otherwise would have never won the pot. Optimize your range as a whole and play each hand accordingly.

As an aside, it's also very rare to have the nuts in a scenario and close the action by checking and implying that you're also not looking to ever bluff that spot. In general, you want to reserve the right to bluff at any time and this means you're likely going to want to bet the nuts always in spots like this.

Hi. For me, I will raise preflop, and if I get re-raised It's easy fold. Just call on preflop I don't know where am I.
After flop I will try to trap the opponent.
Depends on situation on table on the turn, but in 75% I will also check and never raise on river.

Thanks for the input, will take it into consideration next time I am in a spot like this.

Site is also really nice and hope to stay around :) Can't wait for the video uploading tool.

Fold pre, but not so bad. You have to bet turn to get value from sets, lower flushes. There is absolutely no value in trapping. You are just giving free cards. On the river, I would never shove over the raiser. I think it's close, but it's a fold.

We should not be raising flop unless our image is super laggy. Even so, we are not getting value from many worse hands and turning top pair/nfd into a bluff is terrible.

yeah I agree with most of above. I'm betting the turn most of the time and just folding otr. bet and raise with previous streets being played so passive and us holding the As is always going to be a house imo. I think you're play is good pre and otf.
