Poker players do gamble you know,and they have the willingness to go all in 50-50.. if u put all his shoving hands u could call with AJ and show a profit over the long course.. i would be more comfortable calling with AK than 88 always..

I don't get the 66 thingy ... ? AK has better equity vs. any2 than 66 ...

If you don't have any real incentive that he might have waited for the right spot to trap you with AA, you should just call and go with it.

But I am a bit afraid that we are not talking about the "strategic" aspect of that decision but more about the mental. Am I right?

=> Had you happily called if he had shown you 87o? Or had you considered just folding for the exact same reasons you mentioned (lower variance, don't risk to lose that much money, don't risk getting hit-and-run, don't risk to get made a fool of, don't grant him the undeserved victory etc.)?

You don't have to answer publicly (obviously you can though) ... but you should answer that to yourself. If you can SERIOUSLY reply with "YES", which means, you had snapped, then the answer should be pretty clear. If you'd say (at least to yourself) that you had folded anyways, then we can still discuss that thing (as it's more than human to think that way - so please don't get me wrong!!), but then we are discussing that spot on a different level (and probably should discuss it in another forum, not the strategy forum).

Vs a maniac i think AK is always a call, then if you get unlucky GG, for sure on the long run you will make profit on him.
But in generallar, when will you guys fold AK pre-flop ? Only after a 4bet/5bet pre or also in a random all in pre for a full stack ? And when after a 4bet you will fold AK, only vs really tight oppo ? or with AK you will generally avoid a 5bet all in.
