AK to cbet or not to cbet

Blinds: $0.05/$0.10 (6 Players) BN: $10.00
SB: $10.27 (Hero)
BB: $4.65
UTG: $16.71
MP: $10.05
CO: $10.00
Preflop ($0.15) Hero is SB with K A
3 folds, BN raises to $0.25, Hero raises to $0.90, BB folds, BN calls $0.65
Flop ($1.90) 2 5 8
Hero checks, BN checks
Turn ($1.90) 2 5 8 9
Hero checks, BN bets $1.05, Hero calls $1.05
River ($4.00) 2 5 8 9 7
Hero checks, BN bets $2.25, Hero folds
Final Pot BN wins $3.82
Rake is $0.18

Villain is 25/20 over 174 hands, so far hasn't folded to a 3bet, but this is irrelevant - we can just call him a typical nl10 reg.

My question is whether it would be better just to cbet flop and take our FE + pot equity, or if we should take the xc line and just our pot equity. I understand from a theoretical perspective that this should PROBABLY be a check/call because (a) he should stab worse and we have good equity vs his valuebetting range, and (b) it's hard to say how much FE we have here.

The thing is, by betting we probably invest the same amount as check/calling anyway, with the benefit of probably have some degree of FE. And we still have the chance to turn a TPTK. By check/calling we have 0% FE obviously, we rely on hitting, and we face the threat of future bets.

Should we just screw it and bet?
