A7s on BTN vs SB

Blinds: $0.02/$0.05 (6 Players) BN: $10.87 (Hero)
SB: $20.28
BB: $5.02
UTG: $5.25
MP: $9.16
CO: $6.09
Preflop ($0.07) Hero is BN with A 7
3 folds, Hero raises to $0.12, SB raises to $0.41, BB folds, Hero calls $0.29
I think defending here is good since I'm suited and in position and my ace is good sometimes when he has TT-KK.
Flop ($0.87) A Q 9
SB checks, Hero bets $0.45, SB calls $0.45
As played I think a bet for value is good if he has KK, KQ, JJ, TT etc. also if he has KJ KT JT.
Turn ($1.77) A Q 9 5
SB bets $0.85, Hero calls $0.85
River ($3.47) A Q 9 5 7
SB bets $1.66, Hero calls $1.66
Overall I don't understand his line. What is his turn and river leading range?

I was extremely confused when villain x/c flop then lead twice. What's a reasonable range the villain can have? Is it leaning more towards value or bluffs? Generally when things don't make sense in these stakes I call thinking it's generally bluffy but I can be wrong. Any feedback and comments would be appreciated.

I think this is fine, me personally wouldn't bet the flop.
But after betting flop you played this exceptionally well (except for betting flop) imo.
Remember, we call this river expecting to lose just about 75% of the time.
Also you seem a little unsure of your BTN defending range vs three bet. Both this one and the last one are fine. 54s , KJo, 97s, etc would be the bottom of my range in these spots (including all PP's and Axs I didn't 4-bet).... FWIW

I think you can either way, I think checking flop is perfectly fine. However I felt like in this hand I didn't want to check and let a straight flush card peel and kill my action against KQ QJ KK.

And yeah I guess I don't expect to be good here but his line is so weird. Do you think he's doing with exclusively monsters (AA AQ QQ) or merged with some strong combo draws?

Thanks for your feedback! :)

Hoping to see A5s, random Ax, missed FD's , JTs, GS(maybe).

Overall I don't understand his line. What is his turn and river leading range?

Wouldn't pull your air out trying to figure out what he had, especially these donk/ double donk lines.

I'm definitely not betting the flop, we need to pot control and don't need protetction, and we benefit by protecting our checking range with some TP that can take two bets OTT and OTR.

As played AA and 77 is top range so, not folding.

What's his range, OTF it would probably XC weak AXs, TT,JJ,KK,AA, FD, KQ, QJs, when he's leading turn I think his value range is TP+ and with some FD as bluffs.

I agree with checking, specifically for your second reason - I like to have hands that can call the turn and river.

As played we end up needing to call turn and river... but now we've got something close to the bottom our range, right? I'm guessing your value-betting range on the flop doesn't go much lower than A7s?

I agree that the river is close because he can just turn up with random hands, but I don't hate a fold with this hand (given it's the bottom of our range). Anyone agree?

Like I said above, I think betting flop is fine to get value from KK KQ QJ type hands before the board gets too wet but I think checking flop is fine.

And ah I see. Thanks for your feedback!

@robinfromthehood I called because his line is very strange and usually I interpret it as a bluff, and posted it here to get other peoples opinion on it haha. Although I agree I would not fault someone for folding this hand OTR

@robinfromthehood You have Aces and Sevens, Double Pair, AK is weaker than your hand. Is AK bottom of your range too??

Your top range it's something like 99, AQ, A9s, A7s, A5s and then AK,AJ,AT,A8-A6s,A4s-A2s

Yeah my bad on this... I misread the river and didn't see we had 2-pair.

Assume the river is an 8 - then we're at the bottom of our range, right? You guys folding / tempted to fold then?

Be careful with betting flops too thinly where your opponent should have a lot of strong hands. This is not a hand that can go 3 streets without improving, so checking back most of the time is probably the way to go.

Turn call, he can be making some kind of info bet with worse or be bluffing with an oddly played draw.

River jam all in, though it's close. AQ/A9 are not a big concern. You are only losing to flop slowplays, and he most likely calls you with worse more often than with better, unless you have a read that he is tight and scared on rivers.

Don't be afraid to go for value, just because you could be beat. As long as you get called by worse more often than by better, it is correct.

I agree that we're unlikely to get 3 streets of value with this hand w/out improving, which is why I said above that I like checking too.

However the more I think about it, the more I think that the fact the board is two-tone could make some difference. Do we prefer to get our 2 streets of value on the flop and turn on two-tone boards? Or does it not make that much difference?

As I said above I'm betting flop for value before the board gets to wet to get value from worse hands like KK KQ and worse Ax. Because I'm betting flop doesn't mean im going for 3 streets. But like I said above I would not fault someone for checking this flop back however I think betting flop is profitable. If I get x/r then I fold, and if I had reads villain x/r lots of flops I would lean to checking flop.

I didn't go for value he just bet into my twice and I was wondering what other people think about his range in this spot. If it's a close decision I wont worry too much about it since I think it'll be rare many villains will take this line.

Thanks for your feedback!
