A2s from HJ. Raise preflop?
Want to understand the theory behind this somewhat seemingly decision.
HJ - 56.85 - Hero - As2s
CO - 49.85 - 44/11 over 9 hands
Btn - 77.21 - 58/23/0 over 31 hands (VP/PFR/3bet)
SB - 58.39 - 23/16/0 over 31 hands
BB - 49.25 - 10/5 over 31 hands
Something I've been thinking about a lot lately, is how am I going to turn a profit postflop with my hand to figure out whether to raise preflop. If there was a loose passive fish in the BB in this hand, then I would raise, feeling it would be +EV mainly from the times I isolate the fish BB HU. Without any fish in the BB, I just fold in this spot. Is that too tight?
I see a lot of players say from a GTO perspective, they are raising all their Axs from utg or from the HJ. In this spot, the CO and the Btn are a little loose over a small sample. It appears I will play a multi-way pot or HU pot out of position a lot. I don't have any reads on their play. Because its hard to get value from a 2 and there isn't any lower Ax to get value from, postflop, I should be bluffing a lot. It also seems like villains like the btn that are 58/23 are usually a little splashy, so I just fold here.
When it comes to big cards, I'm usually pretty good about knowing when to raise preflop in most spots. But when it comes to small Axs hands, I'm generally just raising them from the btn/CO or raising from the HJ to isolate a fish in the blinds. Sometimes maybe from utg if I'm 150-200BB deep with multiple players. I'm usually always thinking in terms of isolating fish preflop and opening pretty GTO when there is only regs left in the pot. Don't think in terms of "isolating" a reg or raising preflop to bluff a reg postflop.
What do you guys think about my thinking?
