A journey to the high stakes world in Macau (Hand 3, suicide river bluff?)
SB: $113.51 (Hero)
BB: $155.32
UTG: $269.79
MP: $103.22
CO: $61.50
Rake is $2.50
Preflop: Pretty standard 3bet with a high frequency.
Flop: Jh 9d 8s. Initially this board may look pretty bad for us. But it actually slightly favors us. Just like MP we have all the set combos and the QTs combos. We also have the overpairs to go with that. I felt that I should range bet this board with a small 33% pot bet and PIO likes this play. Interestingly PIO doesn't have a raising range for the MP (they should flat with most of their range here).
Turn: Kc. Great turn card for our range. Time to apply pressure. PIO has two sizings. It prefers the smaller sizing (presumably so that it can bet wider for value/protection and not polarize itself). I go with the 66% pot bet and we get a call from MP.
River: Js. Not the best of cards. MP should have a huge amount of Jx here. For value here I have quads (1 combo), full houses (KK, 99, 88, KJs ~ 10 combos), trips (AJ, QJ, JT). I decided to add AQo to balance out my bluffing range here as it blocks Jx suited. This logic is good, but the execution is not. I should be bluffing with AQo but not this combo as it doesn't block the Jx suited combos. You will see that the Jh and Js are on the board and I hold the As and Qh. I should have checked this combo and bluffed with other suited combinations with better blockers.
Lesson: When bluffing think about the blocking effects on my cards vs villain's calling range.
