99 - value bet?

BN: $26.02 (Hero)
SB: $38.16
BB: $49.12
UTG: $25
HJ: $26.72
CO: $25.35
Preflop ($0.35) (6 Players)
Hero was dealt 9 9
UTG folds, HJ folds, CO folds, Hero raises to $0.50, SB raises to $2, BB folds, Hero calls $1.50
pretty standard
Flop ($4.35) 9 3 2 (2 Players)
SB bets $3, Hero calls $3
I see him cbetting just purely because he raised me pre, and trying to get some folds here, so i let him take this root and let him bet into me.
Turn ($10.35) 9 3 2 3 (2 Players)
SB bets $6.50, Hero calls $6.50
he carried on his aggression, and i pick up the 2nd nuts.. bar 33
River ($23.35) 9 3 2 3 6 (2 Players)
SB checks, Hero bets $5, SB calls $5
he then checks, which SCREAMS weakness here.. This is where i want feedback for the hand. did i bet to small, the idea i had was that if i bet so small then he would maybe induce a shove on his part, or at the worst he would call as he gets such good odds.
Final Pot
Hero has 9 9 Hero wins $31.59
Its in the comments, mainly river street

He almost certainly has an overpair here. I think you can bet around half-pot. He's not putting you on a three, since you called his three-bet (unless your image is insane). I think you can definitely get more out of him here, and he probably shoves over you a small enough a percentage of the time, particularly with an overpair, that betting higher for value is better.

Yeah i put him on some kind of overpair, that would definetly raise my river.. with me having such a small amount behind.. I wont say what he came out with as want some more advice, but it was surprising to say the least.

What range do you think he has when he checks to you on the river? What part of that range do you think calls a small bet, and what part of his range calls a larger bet? How often do you think he will read the bet as weak AND use that information to bluff? How often do you think he reads the bet as weak AND value shoves light?

I'm thinking a larger bet is probably best, but those are the things I'd be thinking about to try and figure it out in game. Shoving does seem best...

Excellent post. People tend to be pretty nitty on rivers I find so I wouldn't expect villain to raise you very often even with a good overpair. He's likely just scared of the few combos that have him beat and is hoping not to get stacked.

Yeah, I agree with that.. but the exact hand he had was 88.. I see him as completely given up on the river there and think i actually got max value out of that approach, in the long run i will start shipping the river. Thanks for input.
