77 river decision on trip board HU

Blinds: $0.25/$0.50 (2 Players) BB: $53.68
SB: $60.62 (Hero)
Preflop ($0.75) Hero is SB with 7 7
BB raises to $1.00, Hero calls $0.50
I could have 3bet but I prefer to play smaller pairs in single raised pots OOP plus I haven't really got any reads on villain yet.
Flop ($2.00) 5 8 3
Hero checks, BB bets $1.43, Hero calls $1.43
Turn ($4.86) 5 8 3 3
Hero checks, BB bets $2.32, Hero calls $2.32
River ($9.50) 5 8 3 3 3
Hero checks, BB bets $4.50, Hero folds
I assume everything's standard up to here (correct me if I'm wrong!). When he bets the river I come to the conclusion that he's not value-betting anything worse than 8x for three streets and decide to fold.
Final Pot BB wins $9.07
Rake is $0.43

When I finished my session I looked back and started to doubt myself a bit with this hand. I thought maybe he could have been semi-bluffing with a flush draw on flop+turn and then 'full bluffed' on the river. But then I thought when the board makes trips on the river do people try and bluff people who called three streets? A lot of people never seem to fold full houses which would make a bluff unprofitable.

I seem to have levelled myself here rather than in the hand (Which is kind of good I suppose?) but I think I'm over-thinking it slightly.

Is anyone calling here and if so why? Is it a case of if it's good enough to call turn it's good enough to call river? Or do people reach the same conclusion that he wouldn't go three streets with anything less than 8x?
