Since you raised in MP villain likely flats preflopwith 88, TT and JJ. I doubt JTs is in his range, but maybe!
The river isnt really that complicated. It will feel tough and horrible in game no doubt, but villain is just never bluffing here, and may no even raise 88 here, thought he definetly still could. he more than likely has Pocket J's, quads, JTs.
There is no worse hand that is value cutting its, especially not this deep.
This is a very good spot to mention Tommy angelo's ideas on reciprocality, i advise you to read up on this subject.
Most mediocre regs will just sigh call this off, although they know in their gut they are just never going to ship the pot their way. This is a very common leak in peoples games, and i mean it in no offense if you did call it off, we have all been their, we can only move on and learn from are mistakes, take it as a $50 lesson; and ensure you do not continue to make similar mistakes in the future. Your winrate will increase dramatically id you can do so, and the gap between you and other regulars will widen quite substantially.
I'm turbo mucking this R and I'm not feeling bad about this for two seconds. Is it exploitable? Sure. Will I get exploited at these stakes? Not really.
BTW, what do you guys think about XB QJ+(overcard)/QQ+ in this spot? The board is really scary for us in general since SB is likely set-heavy in this spot, so we can't expect getting 3 streets and we don't need that much protection.
I generally agree with regularblue, but I actually think that villain has JTs (2 combos) and hands like TT and JJ not so much, simply because he would 3 bet them quite often. 88 is definetely in his range. I think he might do this with 9Ts, but certainly not everytime. I would fold as well, but I did make these calls and occasionally still make them in game, but as blue said, you are much better off not doing them.
88s is a good hand to 3b. if he is a fish, he can make this raise with AT/KT/QT and makes the call profitable. if not, just muck.
on this stake maybe a mistake to 5b jam but I generally do it :p
It is a tough spot but when we analyse it we can only really beat a pure bluff and what can he call flop and turn with that he can turn into a bluff? I am reading the Tommy Angelo book at the moment and Regularblue hit the nail on the head. This is a perfect example of reciprocality and if we can fold this spot we have a serious edge over other regs at this level.
Jaacsin, I bought it directly from tommyangelo.com, the book is called 'Elements of Poker'. I downloaded it to my ipad and read through the iBooks application.
I guess this is a fold most of the time, i dont see him bluffin a lot here... What combos is he turning into a bluff here? sigh fold imo... Chasing, whats ur id on stars? im playin 50nl atm too :P
Jaacsin, im sorry i'd rather not give my ID just cause of exploitability options then when you scroll tru my posts :-)
