2nlz, proper squeeze?

Blinds: $0.01/$0.02 (6 Players) BN: $2.00
SB: $1.98
BB: $2.00 (Hero)
UTG: $1.16
MP: $2.00
CO: $12.03
both players readless
Preflop ($0.03) Hero is BB with 9 6
2 folds, CO raises to $0.04, BN calls $0.04, SB folds, Hero raises to $0.20, CO calls $0.16, BN folds
I see 96s as the bottom of my range here, think this is a good hand to use as a bluff/squeeze
Flop ($0.45) 7 A 5
Hero checks, CO checks
I check here with the intention of going for a check raise, villain insta checks back.
Turn ($0.45) 7 A 5 J
Hero bets $0.30, CO folds
Seeing the insta check, I bet here for fold equity and I do have a flush/gutter draw
Final Pot BB wins $0.43
Rake is $0.02

I'm confused about 2 things here. Was the squeeze too loose, or was this a decent hand to use? I wasn't going to call, and figured I could use it as a bluff squeeze.

The second thing I'm confused about is the flop action. Was it correct to check, with the intention of going for a check raise, or should I have led out? And when the flop does check through, do you think leading the turn was the right move?

Thanks
