25NL [ZOOM] Nut FD vs Raise

BN: $70.85
SB: $39.26
BB: $25.31
UTG: $33.82 (Hero)
HJ: $31.68
CO: $28.67
Stats HJ: 20/16 3bet:5 Agg:2,7 ColdcallMP:5% RaiseCbetIP:25% Wtsd:29%
Preflop ($0.35) (6 Players)
Hero was dealt 8 A
Hero raises to $0.75, HJ calls $0.75, CO folds, BN folds, SB folds, BB folds
I'am guessing his calling range is something like AK, AQ KQs, and pairs (22-JJ)
Flop ($1.85) K 5 2 (2 Players)
Hero bets $1.25, HJ raises to $3.75, Hero calls $2.50
Since his raise cbet is kinda high in these spots I assume he raises me with his value hands (22,55 sometimes AK) mixed with some bluffs. Like a low pair that he decides to turn into a bluff. Against that range we have ~40% equity. So is a call fine here? Or are there any good reasons for 3betting in this spot?
Turn ($9.35) K 5 2 7 (2 Players)
Hero checks, HJ bets $5.10
What's the best thing to do on this turn? I wasn't that sure that when I should make the call here that I would get a large bet out of him on the river when my flush hits. So x/c, x/f or maybe c/r?

Thnx

If you guys need any more stats, just let me know.

I would ask myself some questions b4 making turn decision since you are only getting less than 3:1 immediate P/O

1) will he pay me if/when I make my flush, since it strongly looks like I am drawing.

2) what do I do if the 5c or 7c hits the river and pairs the board?

3) is villain one who could slow play KK pre?

4) does he have worse F/D in his range?

When I answer these questions then I make my decision!

I don't see any reason to C/R turn unless I am willing to get in, cause it looks like he wants to, with 1card to come you are not folding out better on the turn and your hand looks like a draw based on flop action!

Don't forget you raised from EP and he is getting aggressive on the flop knowing that your range should be tighter that in later positions.

C/C and evaluate river, IMO.

I don´t see any merits in either 3betting the flop with the given action nor in x/r the turn. Turn call is kinda close, you don´t get the right expressed odds to call so you have to consider how you get the remaining money when you hit. Additionally consider reverse implieds when the board pairs.

ok, I think flop play is fine indeed.

On the turn I decided to make the call and evaluate river just like Edichkal is saying. I think I can get just a little bit more money when I hit the river since his WTSD% is a little higher than most of the players, think he can't lay down a set when I bet around half of the pot on the river.

Think that when he has a WTSD% closer to 20/23% I'd consider just folding the turn, it only just feels so weak to check/fold your nut FD in these spots :P

I don't think it's weak at all to fold in this spot, what happens when you hit TP on the river and you check OOP and he shoves, you will be put in a very awkward/tough spot with a 1 pair hand against an opponent that could figure this out and shove all his 2pair+ hands.

And like BigFizsh posted betting 1/2 when you make the nuts is not really evaluating the river.......

BigFiszh 11 years, 10 months ago

Yeah, but then you didn´t really plan to "evaluate" the river, right? You just planned to bet 1/2 when a spade hit and x/f otherwise. ;)

Yep, there isn't much of evaluating to it, its a +- 1/2pot bet when the flush hits and on any other card its a clear x/f imo.

Don't see much of a problem when the river brings an A, I think its a clear fold if he bets the river.
