$1/3 Live at Aria flop top set
Came across this hand playing at the Aria in LV the other night. Hadn't played live in over a year so I was a little rusty compared to online play. Some background; table was super fishy the first 2 hours I was sitting down, but had really calmed down in action the hour before this hand came up. I had just won a big pot against a brand new player on my right so I was the biggest stack.
MP1 was a regular (lived in LV, knew the dealers, etc.) that seemed like a pretty decent player; not afraid to put chips in but didn't do anything crazy either. I mostly avoided getting into big pots with him as there were better targets at the table (including 1 player who regularly folded his BB option, but that's another story). My biggest read on him was he would put his whole stack in/largely over-bet the river with the nuts, and maybe a few times when he realized his opponent couldn't possibly call.
BB was a new player, sat down on my left with his buddy on his left. Both were from Palestine and didn't seem to be regular players, and pretty fishy. Just my initial impression. All stack amounts are close estimates.
Preflop:
UTG: raises to $10
UTG+1: folds
MP1 (Villain 1): Calls $10 [$180]
MP 2: Folds
CO: Folds
BTN: Folds
SB (Hero): Calls $10 [$435]
BB (Villain 2): Calls $10 [$210]
Hero is dealt 99
Flop: $40 minus rake
5 6 9 (rainbow)
Hero checks, BB checks, UTG checks, MP1 bets $20, Hero calls, BB calls, UTG folds...
Obviously this is great flop for us, wasn't too scared a straight at this point. Probably should've led-out though given 4 players in the hand.
Turn: $100 minus rake
A
Hero checks, BB checks, MP1 bets $50, Hero calls, BB calls...
Good card for us, highly suspect anyone is slow playing bullets. In hindsight, I think this is where I should have jammed but I'd love a second opinion.
River: $250 minus rake
7
Hero checks, BB checks, MP1 jams for $105, Hero tanks and folds, BB calls...
Disgusting river, but kind of our own doing. Definitely should've never let it get to that point. Both had the straight, MP1 had A8 and BB had 88, so I'm happy with my river fold but obviously not with the hand in general. I didn't give the straight draw too much thought until the river, and there was no flush draw on board.
Given the BB and UTG are new but pretty clearly fishy, whats the best way to play this? 3 bet pre? Jam the turn? Both?
Or is this not a terrible way to play this? If the river is a blank or pairs, which it will be more often than not,we can win a bigger pot but it will occasionally run out this way and we have to fold. If we check/jam the turn and they fold, we win $150. If one or both call, we win a massive pot most of the time but get rivered once in a while. I don't think raising the flop (unless its huge) will get BB to go anywhere, MP1 might fold if BB calls a big flop raise.
Any thoughts? Thanks everyone
